                              Training Officer Information
The EMS Online website was developed for prehospital personnel as an alternative for completing
the cognitive objectives of the Ongoing Training and Education Program (OTEP) courses. These
continuing education courses are accessible to personnel who have established accounts with
EMS Online.

HOW TO SIGN UP
1. Upon request from your agency’s training officer or department administrator of your EMS
agency, EMS Online will email a web address (URL) from which you can download the
subscription packet. The packet will include:
       A Subscription Form
A copy of the EMS Online User Agreement
       A blank roster file
2. Complete the roster file with a list of personnel who need access to the website and email it as
an attachment to subscribe@emsonline.net. You must supply the required information as
directed in the roster file before we can process your subscriptions.
The website database stores exam scores and related information. Your department
administrator will be able to access the department's data. You can designate who will have
access to exam reports for your agency in the ‘Access Level' column of the roster with: (access
   level 2).
3. In addition to sending the roster file by email, you will need to complete the following paper
documents and send them by postal mail to EMS Online:
       Competed Subscription Form
Payment for the full amount calculated on the Subscription Form
Two signed originals of the EMS Online User Agreement
A letter of approval from your agency's medical director
Once we have received all of the above documents, EMS Online will enter your agency’s
roster information into the database and notify you by email that the usernames are active.
This should take about two weeks after the required documents have been received. You can
then inform your personnel that they have access to the website.

HOW TO RENEW
The user agreement outlines the terms for use of EMS Online. The user agreement is
automatically renewed each year provided you submit a new Subscription Form, a current roster
file, and current insurance documents to EMS Online along with a check for payment by January
31 of the new subscription year.

database.
RESETTING EXAMS
A designated department administrator can request a reset of aborted exam by emailing a request

HOW TO LOG ON FOR THE FIRST TIME
First enter your username and initial password. The system will prompt you to change the initial
password. You can retrieve the password automatically from the home page if forgotten. You must
submit current email addresses in order for this feature to work.
EMS ONLINE EXAMS
NOTE: Macromedia Flash Player 9 (or higher) must be installed in order to view the case
studies and practice exams. Your browser should be set to "accept cookies" and "always
allow session cookies" from this website, otherwise you will not be able to log on to the exam.
The website database stores exam scores and related information. Your training officer or
department administrator will be able to access the department's data. You can also view a report
of your exam scores.
Each course should take about 30 - 45 minutes to complete. You can complete an exam for each
course on this site. EMS Online courses are continuing education and recertification courses.
They cover fundamental concepts and terminology as well as some advanced material. The online
courses do not cover all national curricula materials for each topic. However, the exam requires
this basic knowledge for recertification purposes.
We highly recommend completing the case studies and practice exam before taking the exam.
We also recommend that you review basic textbook chapters covering the topics as a refresher
before taking the exam. The introduction page of each course provides suggested readings. Your
computers must have Macromedia Flash Player 9 (or higher) to take the practice exam.
Exams are accessible from each course page in the left column by clicking the “Exam” link. Read
the Exam Intro page and then re-enter your password (this is for security purposes). Once an
exam is started, you cannot quit or it will be scored with a 0. You must answer all questions and
press the SUBMIT button on the bottom of the exam page to receive credit.
Do not close the browser window with the X button in the top right corner of the window or the
score will be recorded as a zero. You have 15 minutes to complete an exam. No one should
attempt to copy or redistribute any portion of an exam.
If you are taking an exam and are called away to an emergency then close the current browser
window by clicking the X button in the top right corner of the browser. A designated training officer
can request a reset of the aborted exam by emailing a request to EMS Online technical support.
Send a name, the course and date for each exam reset request.
You have two chances to pass each exam. If you fail an exam twice, you must contact a training
officer or department administrator to develop a remediation plan before being allowed additional
chances at passing the course. The department administrator should contact EMS Online
technical support regarding resetting of exams scores, if needed, when more than two attempts
are needed.
PRACTICAL EXAMS
For agencies that incorporate practical skills exams into their OTEP program, EMS personnel
must complete a practical exam administered by a Washington State approved EMS evaluator in
addition to passing the recertification exam administered on this site. A completed skills checklist
from the practical exam should be kept with your department's records. Sample skills checklists
are included in this information packet and are available as PDF documents in the Downloads
section of EMS Online.
MISCELLANEOUS
Unless you are called away to an emergency, do not click the X in the top right hand corner of
your browser window to close the window when taking an exam. Doing so will give you a failing
score.
Exit your Web browser to log off when you are finished viewing a course or taking an exam; exit
the browser to log on again. The system automatically logs you off if the browser sits idle for more
than 15 minutes.
The + View elaboration links that appear throughout this course will display more information
about the topic on a page. Their purpose is to elaborate on the topic to help ensure you can meet
course objectives.
External links are for the purpose of expanding basic EMT knowledge. These optional external
websites have been reviewed and are appropriate for EMT continuing education. The course
exams do not cover material from the external links.
