INTRODUCTION:
Everyone in the world will give you advice on submitting
an article to the different directories, but no one actually
takes the time to do anything other than give you a list
of sites to submit to.
Well as you may have noticed, we like to do things a bit
differently here. What we are going to do is take you
step-by-step through signing up to some of the different
article directories, creating your signature file and posting
your article to achieve maximum benefit for your
Business.
First, let’s take care of the things we need in order to get
started. These things would be an article and a Signature
file.
The dreaded article. There is only one thing you need
to know here and that is that you are not trying to win a
Pulitzer Prize for literature here. You are writing an article
that will be picked up by sites and directories world wide
and will supply you with visitors to your sites, blogs and
affiliate promotions for years to come.
We’re not going to take a lot of time on this, just sit
down and gather your thoughts related to what URL and
subject you want to promote and write about 600 words
on that subject. It’s a lot easier than you’re thinking it is
going to be. Stop overanalyzing and being critical of
yourself and get it done.

Here is a quick tip for those still believing they can not
write an article. I never start off to write an article, I
began with what I believe would be a very informative
blog post and then after I have used that part for content
on my blog I revisit it, change the title and expand on a
few things in the post and before you know it there’s a
600 plus word article sitting in front of you by accident.
Here is an article I put together just for this
demonstration. It is shorter than you would need for
submission, but gives you a starting point. Feel free to
take it and expand on it for your own article or blog post.
I am also using it here to drive the point home about how
important I feel this subject is.
Using Articles to Drive Traffic to a New Site
If you are not using article submission to drive traffic to your new sites, you
have two options at this point. You can either start writing them and begin to
learn what you need in order to get them posted on an article directory or you
could delete the site and give up.
There is nothing else that you have more control over than this one simple step
to help you get more readers to your site. It can be as easy as taking the content
you have on your site and turning it into articles for submission, or just sitting
down and taking what you know and turning it into a well informed, well written
article that grabs the readers attention.
By getting the reader interested in what you have to say, you now have someone
that wants to read more of the information that you have written about and will
look to see what else you may have available by following the link that is in your
author bio back to your site. Wow! Traffic to your site that you created.
The internet is also full of content starved web masters, newsletter publishers and
ezine operators that are always looking for a good article to add to their publication
that will increase its value to their readers. You now have someone else promoting
your information and by giving credit to you as the author, you have a new source
of free links back to your sites.
If you feel that you are not ready to start on this process, spend some time looking
around the various article directories on the internet. The first thing you will notice
are the types of articles that people are writing and looking for. I believe after
looking at a few you will come to realize that it is not rocket science. You can do
this! The first one is going to be the hardest but, then it becomes like an addiction.

You will begin to want to share everything that you know with others.
Start by taking your subject and write down whatever comes into your mind about
it. Remember, you do know something that someone else does not know and will
find interesting to read, so get that first article written and posted to at least one
directory.
After you have gotten approval to have it published, you will then know that you
have met the basic criteria for publishing articles. If your article is rejected, take
note of the reasons you are given, correct them and then resubmit it. The most
common reason will be links within the article or self-promotion. There are limits
and basic rules so check with each directory before posting your article to them.
Once you understand the basics start writing and posting. You will be pleased
when you start to see the traffic begin linking through your articles. Good luck
and I look forward to seeing your articles out there on the net.
In the resource section I will be giving you a lot of places
to get fresh monthly PLR to use for your articles. PLR is a
great source of content, especially if you are experiencing
any sort of writers block.
One thing to remember any time you are writing a
document for submission is that you will want to try to
come up with at least 5 keywords that you are targeting
with your article and weave them into the document.
Once you are finished writing, we will add an article
summary. This consists of at least 2 to 3 sentences that
will get the searchers attention.
Next, we need to have a signature file. To me, this is
more important than even the article itself. This will be
how someone will find your site on the internet after they
have read your article.

As an example of what I’m referring to, this is a
signature file that I use for my passion, my Lost Treasure
Hunting sites.
Greg Mulac traveled the globe 25 years pursuing Gold Prospecting / Treasure Hunting passions.
Today, retired from an IT Career, he thrives in SEO and Internet Marketing ventures.
As you can see, I have hyperlinks in this one. A lot of
sites will not let you do this. If you go to the Appendix
and look real quick you will see I give step by step
instructions on how to do Link Redirect and a location to
go and get the one used in this ebook for free that all you
have to do is edit and put on your server and use over
and over.
Now we have an article and we have a signature file.
Now we need to place our article everywhere we can.
Below I’m giving you but a small fraction of the sites that
are out there. You will need to come up with a plan to do
a new submission either daily or weekly and it will add up
very quickly.
To help you in this and to make your life easier in the
future, let’s now create a folder on your desktop called
My Articles. In this folder, we now have our first article
and a separate document with our various signature files.
The next document that you will want to create is one
called your Submissions file. In this new document, you
will enter four basic things, the name of the submission
site, their URL and the username and password that you
use to log in. This will be very helpful to you when you
“Traffic Surge” © Copyright 2007 Greg Mulac. All Rights Reserved Worldwide 5
write that second article and want to do the whole
process over again.
Here are list of article directories that you can submit
your articles to. Remember, after we have done these
and you start to get excited that you site or blog is
getting traffic, just keep going. Do a Google search and
find some more. I will keep an updated page on my blog
at www.GregMulac.com for article submission sites and
you can find an updated and constantly growing list here:
http://www.gregmulac.com/article-directories-for-free-
article-submision/
Many times people will tell you something but not do it
themselves. If you see a link in this ebook or on any of
my sites, all you have to do is search that site for my
name and I guarantee you will find my articles there. I do
not believe in recommending something that I myself
would not do or use.
To begin, we will start with my favorite and one that has
sent the most traffic to my sites.
Ezine Articles
http://www.ezinearticles.com/submit/
This page is where you will set up your account.

Below is the sign up page and you will notice the link to
watch the video. Chris Knight has done a great job and
by watching the video you are not only taken through the
basic account set up but it does a fantastic job of
explaining each part of the article process. The site also
has a Play button next to each box that gives you
information on just that subject.
By starting here, you will learn everything you need to
know about articles so that all of the other article
submissions you do will seem so easy. You will be asking
yourself, “Why did I keep putting this off?”

After you get your account set up and log in go to the
Articles Manager tab and select Submit a new article. The
following screen will appear. Just enter the information as
you learned in the video and you have your first article
submitted and driving traffic to your site.

Title optimization tips:
-> 4 to 7 words recommended for title. Keep title length less than 65
characters (including spaces)
-> Include keywords for which you want the article to get searched.
Keywords and keyword combinations in article title play a vital role in
determining your article’s search engine rankings. For better search engine
positioning one needs to pay attention to the words that appear in title and
the order in which they appear.
-> Keep title relevant to the article content. Do not try to optimize title for
irrelevant or very competitive keywords.
-> Short titles are NOT recommended because more keywords increase
possibility of rankings for more keyword combinations. Moreover short titles
may conflict with Buzzle's existing and planned categories.
-> For article series, instead of part 2, part 3, etc. in title (and remaining
title same as previous article's), we recommend to use unique titles for
each articles
-> Do not include HTML tags in title
-> Do not include single or double quotes, or other special characters.
-> Do not include date
-> Title and description are used to link to the article from other pages and
search engines. Convincing title and description increase click-through rate.
-> More tips and further reading
Description:
-> Please do not copy first para of article as description. Text in description
should describe the article in short; preferably in 1 to 3 sentences.
-> Include all main targeted keywords and others which could not be
covered in title
-> All content here must be relevant to the article. Please do not include
urls or personal info.
-> Max 450 characters
-> Do not include HTML tags in description

Article:
-> Recommended length 700 to 2500 words.
-> Short paragraphs recommended. Max 3000 characters allowed in any
one paragraph.
-> No max length limit for article, but if greater than 2500 words we
recommend to separate into different articles.
-> When including links within the article, each must be unique. i.e. each
link must have a different title and must link to a different Web page.
-> tags recommended for sub headings. Make sure to close the tags
properly with .
-> Apart from any other tag should be avoided especially if you are
not HTML expert.
-> Do not use tag as carriage return/line feed is automatically
converted into tag.
-> As every carriage return/line feed is converted into break( tag)
when article is displayed,
- be careful to format your article correctly
- For HTML experts, remember carriage return may insert within
your other HTML. Especially if you use tag, may get
inserted between and tags or and tags if
carriage returns are entered between your tags.

In closing, you just need to get started and do it. There is
no magic in this business, it is simply a matter of having
a plan and actually working it to be among the ones that
enjoy success.
So schedule yourself some time to both write articles and
get them posted. Something as simple as one a week will
still give you 52 in a year and that’s probably 10000
percent more than most people out there.
Appendix
So now you‘ve read everything about using articles as a
way to promote affiliate products. While this can be a
good idea, you should consider a few things first. Given
the fact that your article will be picked up and be seen
“Traffic Surge” © Copyright 2007 Greg Mulac. All Rights Reserved Worldwide 18
everywhere on the web, what will happen if the product
disappears or changes? Wow. You just lost what could
possibly wind up being years of progress.
Let me show you how I have solved that issue for you. I
hope you are sitting down because this will not cost you a
penny.
What we are going to do is promote a product that I
know and use daily. I have already written my article
saying all the nice things and I want to promote my
affiliate link, (even though it is our own product through
PayDotCom, they will still give you your own affiliate link)
The product we are going to promote is
www.brassringblogging.com . If it were yours, that is not
a bad looking link to put in your signature file and you
would only be hurt if I got bored and changed the link.
Now, even if I would never do that I have seen it happen.
Unfortunately, now my affiliate link looks like this
https://paydotcom.com/r/9385/gregmulac/352098/
That does not look so good and it would probably not
even be accepted in the article submissions. So what can
we do?
Well, I happen to have the domain www.gregmulac.com
So I open my trusty FTP software, and under the
gregmulac directory( Note this example is for a URL on a
hosting account where multiple Domains are hosted. If
you only have one domain on the account see the note
below) I am going to create a folder called blog. What
we have so far in the URL is www.gregmulac.com/blog
“Traffic Surge” © Copyright 2007 Greg Mulac. All Rights Reserved Worldwide 19
That would almost make you think that my resource line
is a link to my blog. Instead, what we need to do now in
the folder called blog, is to create an index.php file. In
case you didn’t know, when there is an index file at the
URL you are going to, that is the first page that a
browser will find and run automatically. If you are still
having trouble making your own file I supply a link to the
one used in this example below.
In that index.php file, we want to have the following lines
of code. (Hint: Just replace my link with yours and you
have it.)
This now lets you control where that not so great looking
URL points to. Even if the product that you are
promoting happens to go away, all you have to do is find
something else similar to promote and change the URL in
the index.php file. Then all of the articles that you have,
on as many as 5000 different web pages, are all still
going to be automatically redirected to the index.php file
when they click on your URL in the resource box.
There are two final steps to complete before you are
done. First, test the link and be certain that if you click
on the www.gregmulac.com/blog you will end up at our
Brass Ring Blogging product.
Second and just as important, is to have a word file with
the location of the redirect and the product that you are
promoting. Then at least once a month and be sure to
“Traffic Surge” © Copyright 2007 Greg Mulac. All Rights Reserved Worldwide 20
check all the links and verify that the product that you
are working so hard to promote is still there.
And if you are still looking for information to promote
there is an affiliate link at the bottom of the Brass Ring
Blogging page that links you to a lot of pre written
information you can use.
Note: If the domain were on its own hosting account, you
would create the folder under the public_html folder on
the domain.
Note: If you open the folder that the PHP file is on in
your desktop and select the PHP file and right click on it
and then select open with and select your HTML editor it
will work very well that way.
Note: PHP file is in the link below to my free ebook
download page off my blog the zip for the php file is on
the line called redirect php zip and fell free to grab any of
the ebooks on there that interest you.
