                                                                                    Merriwa’s burger star
                                                                                    MERRIWA’s Mike Gilder is about to
                                                                                    become the farmer face of a major
                                                                                    television advertising blitz promoting a rare
                                                                                    addition to the McDonald’s beef menu −
                                                                                    premium burgers made using Angus beef.
                                                                                     In a major coup for Australia’s dominant
                                                                                    registered beef breed, the chain has added
                                                                                    the Mighty Angus and Grand Angus
                                                                                    burgers to the menu at almost 800 stores
                                                                                    across Australia.
                                                                                     During filming of the advertisement on his
                                                                                    property “Midlothian”, with neighbour,
                                                                                    Dave Alker, Mr Gilder (pictured) spoke “off
                                                                                    the cuff” answering questions about Angus
                                                                                    cattle and the new burgers.
                                                                                     In partnership with his mother, Judy, Mr
                                                                                    Gilder runs 400 Angus breeders (based
                                                                                    heavily on Pine Creek and Millah Murrah
                                                                                    genetics) plus trade cattle on the 2000-
                                                                                    hectare Upper Hunter aggregation.
