PRESENTED BY MICHAEL O’BRYON, PROJECT MANAGER,
                       WASHINGTON MANUFACTURING SERVICES
The lifeblood of any business is new products. Washington Manufacturing Services has developed a new
and dynamic product idea to market program titled Washington Grows. Washington State leads the nation in
business start-ups. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Washington State also leads the nation in
business failures. Too many business fail not because their ideas were not commercially viable, but rather
because they lacked a proven roadmap and support network to guide the idea to success. Washington
Grows is a new approach to business development that combines proven, state-of-the-art proprietary
business analysis software with a committed network of business mentors and educators. Whether a
budding entrepreneur or established manufacturer Washington Grows will help your business grow.

10a-Noon DUELING TIGERS: DOING BUSINESS IN CHINA AND INDIA
          TRAC Center, Meeting Room 3
                       PRESENTED BY U.S. COMMERCIAL SERVICE

Great opportunities and challenges surround doing business in China and India. To address American
business interests, the U.S. Department of Commerce has developed a seminar aimed at practical
knowledge on how businesses may profit from these two economic tigers of the East. Learn how to
penetrate China and India’s emerging markets, practical approaches to market entry and best prospects for
                       U.S. exports.
Why China? Why India? Why Together?
 China and India are two of the world’s fastest growing economies. China’s economy had a growth rate of
                         11.5% in 2007, and India’s exceeded 8%.
 As the Chinese and Indian middle class grows, so do U.S. exports. Exports to both countries have
increased by over 20% in recent years.
 Despite large economic gains, China and India remain hampered by complex legal environments, archaic
infrastructures, due diligence issues and poor intellectual property rights enforcement.
 “But they’re not the same”. China and India have remarkably different cultural and business norms,
presenting a host of unique and misunderstood challenges to U.S. exporters.
