SATURDAY EVENTS: FOR BUDDING WRITERS 9-11 am First on the Scene: Marysville Public School Once again, as a special add-on feature, we offer our popular writing workshop for beginning writers. Learn about plot, character and all the elements of crafting a good mystery. Gather incentive to get started or complete a novel already begun. FOR MYSTERY FANS 11 am Crime Scene Wolfe Island: Wolfe Island United Church Const. Jim Eadie is a leading footprint expert with the Ontario Provincial Police. His detailed presentation, designed to be of interest to the general public, will include real exhibits, slides and expert testimony. 12 noon Lunch: St. Andrew’s United Church Hall Join us for an old-fashioned, friendly lunch in the island's historic United Church hall. Meet our authors up close. Const Eadie will also be on hand to personally answer questions arising from his presentation. 2 pm Panel discussion: Sam Spade vs. Miss Marple: Hitchcock House Our panel of expert authors investigate everyone from whiskey-swilling tough guys to tea-drinking old ladies in their debate over the different styles that make up the crime-writing genre. 3 pm The Grant Allen Award with Howard Engel: Trinity Anglican Church An intimate interview with Howard Engel by Wayne Grady, followed by the presentation of the inaugural Grant Allen Award. Held at historic Trinity Anglican church, where Grant Allen's father was the first minister. 5 pm Author Readings: Trinity Anglican Church Come hear some of Canada's top authors read short mysteries specially prepared for this event. Our award-winning writers include Howard Engel, Alison Gordon, Barbara Fradkin, H. Mel Malton, James Powell, and Peter Sellers. 6 pm Old-fashioned church supper with authors: St. Margaret’s Hall Mingle at a meal with our authors in a church hall on property donated to Wolfe Island by the Grant Allen family. Includes presentation to story contest winners. There's also home-made pie, second and third helpings, and door prizes, too!
