									The Story: “Always Late for Class”
Emily is always late for school and the teacher is getting very angry. Her friends keep asking her
why she’s always late, but she never has a good reason. “I forgot my homework.” “The bus is
always late.” “I hurt my foot on the way to school.” The teacher is fed up and calls her mother,
but her mother says that she always leaves on time. In the end, one of the students follows her to
school – the truth is revealed…Emily has a boyfriend and they sit and hold hands for far too long in
the morning!

Scene 1: Late Again

Narrator: Today is Friday. Emily has been late to school everyday this week. She just walked in
at 7:45 during the announcements. Her teacher is furious.


Teacher: <screaming, mad> Emily! You are late again! You are a very naughty student!


Emily: I’m sorry Ms. ___________ . I will try not to be late anymore.


Teacher: Emily, you have been late everyday this week. What happened to you?


Emily: I’m sorry Ms. ____________. I will try not to be late anymore.


<the two friends are talking on the side, when performing, they should be standing separately from
Emily and the teacher>


Friend #1: Wow, I wonder what happened to Emily.       She is always late.


Friend #2: I know, she gets in trouble every day now. Before she was such a good student.


Friend #1: We should talk to her at recess today.


Teacher: Emily, you do not answer my question.      Sit down. You are distracting your classmates.


Emily: I’m sorry Ms. ___________.
Narrator: Emily sat down in her seat.   Even though Ms. _________ yelled at her, she did not cry.
She was becoming a naughty student.


Scene 2: Excuses

Narrator: Ding dong ding dong <sound like a bell> At recess, Emily’s friends ________ and
___________ found her.


Friend #2: Emily, what’s wrong with you?     Why are you always late for class?


Emily: On Monday, I was late because ______________________________________________ .


Friend #1: Ok. I understand that. But that didn’t happen again on Tuesday, did it?


Emily: No, on Tuesday, I was ________________________________________________________

Friend #2: Wow, two days in a row you were late for different reasons. But what happened on
Wednesday?

Narrator: Emily’s friends’ were surprised that so many bad things happened to her. Just then, Ms.
__________ came over.
Teacher: Emily, I need to talk to you.


Friend #1 and Friend #2: Bye Emily.


Teacher: Emily, I am going to call your mother.   You cannot continue being late to my class.


Emily: Yes, Ms. ____________ .


Narrator: Ms. __________ called Emily’s mother.     Emily’s mother told her __________________

Scene 3: The Truth

Narrator: Emily’s friends’ didn’t believe that five different things happened to Emily and made her
late to school. __________ decided that she would follow Emily to school on Monday.


<Friend #1 will follow Emily, Friend #2 will put on a baseball cap and be Emily’s boyfriend>


Emily: <closes door> Bye Mum!


Narrator: Emily starts walking towards school. __________ follows her but Emily doesn’t know.
She is eager to meet up with ____________, her boyfriend.


Friend #2: Emily, I’m so happy to see you.   <they hold hands>


Emily:   Me too.    I love you ___________ .

Friend #1: Oh gross!


Emily: How are you today?


Friend #2: I’m just so happy to see you.   I love you Emily.
