New Eco-Friendly Wedding Guide Gives Couples a Step-by-Step Plan
to “Go Green”
BE WED planner creates affordable, responsible and meaningful celebrations
February 2, 2009. Seattle, WA. - While “green” weddings are a
growing trend in 2009, the average U.S. wedding costs about $20,000
and has a significant footprint, both from an ecological and economical
standpoint. Couples are looking for resources to help turn the concept
of creating a sustainable wedding ceremony into reality. That‟s why
two Seattle-based entrepreneurs created a new wedding planning
guide to help newly engaged couples think through these important
issues from the start. The guide, called BE WED, is an eco-friendly,
three-ring binder full of information and tools. It retails for $45.00 and
is available through Amazon and on the Evotive company‟s site:
Guide increases social responsibility and decreases stress
Award winning designers Jenna Ashley and Kathleen Koeneman co-
created the BE WED guide to help inspire couples with a conscience to
make wedding decisions with intent.
“Getting married is an exciting, new life adventure but planning the
details, especially when you‟re trying to be socially responsible about
every detail, can be overwhelming,” said Ashley, formerly an art
director for Adobe Systems. “We designed the guide to help couples
focus on taking care of the environment while staying organized,
informed and inspired.”
Three sustainable wedding planning examples in BE WED include:
1. Timeless Wardrobe: Wearing vintage clothing pieces is a wonderful
way to integrate unique, quality clothing into the bridal party‟s
wardrobe while keeping costs down and it allows the bride or to
check the „something old‟ items to wear off of her list.
2. Creative Spaces: Holding your wedding in a non-profit space like an
art museum or gallery allows you to save money on the décor and
support the community since their fees often support cultural
awareness and community education programs.
3. Local Everything: Local, organic flowers are grown without
pesticides and are more likely to have been harvested in socially
responsible conditions (e.g., via fair trade from farmers who
provide safe, healthy conditions for workers).
A peek inside the guide
The eco-friendly BE WED guide includes:
1. The Be Prepared workbook: a reference that helps couples consider,
document, and manage every aspect of their wedding plans. The
workbook‟s Be Connected section contains a comprehensive index
of contacts, web sites, and other resources to help put socially
and environmentally motivated choices into action.
2. The Be Inspired folder: an organizing tool that keeps samples and
clippings on hand for future reference and inspiration.
3. The Be Relaxed folder: a kit designed for storing estimates,
contracts, and invoices. At the end of the planning phase,
everything couple needs to manage the big day winds up here, in
one portable, organized package.
4. Extras: a refillable pen, and a CD for printing additional
copies of all worksheets and checklists.
Evotive creates organizational guides for life adventures. All products
