A Collectible Certificate from the Famous
GREAT ATLANTIC & PACIFIC
It is better known of course simply as A & P!
It began in New York City in 1859 and originally focused merely on the Mail-Order Tea Business! But in 1912 they made a Major Change and really branched out as an Economy Grocery Store, which offered a wide variety of goods at wholesale prices. By the 1950s it was the Number One Food Retailer in the U.S. Quite a success story! But like many another it began to experience problems from stiff competition and slowly declined in importance - yet not in Legend!
The Vignette is quite beautiful! It features their Logo flanked by two Winged Female Allegorical Figures:
On the Left the "Angel" carries a Cornucopia or Horn of Plenty.
On the Right she holds the Sickle and Sheaf of Grain of the Harvest.
