Setting DNS For Your Connection
One of the major problems with BSNL Dataone
Broadband connection is the DNS servers they
provide by default. Most of the time they are very
slow and sometimes they fail to respond. I noticed
that I am starting to spend a significant amount of
time in DNS resolution with Dataone connection,

Open up the network connection profile and edit
TCP/IP settings. In the DNS server address fields,
specify the following DNS server addresses:
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Disconnect the connection and then connect again.
You are done.
This specifies third party DNS servers which are
significantly faster than BSNL Dataone’s DNS servers.

Yes it should work..
Just write down your original settings and use the ones
given in the first post and see how it goes and if it doesn't
make any difference just revert to your original DNS
settings and you will be fine
Dont forget to report back what the result was.. a screen
shot of your speed test would be a huge favor.. if possible

Its not working may be because bandwith for unlimited
plans are 256 kbps (and not upto 2mbps). any ways
thanks for the info on increasing bb speed.
I hope BSNL increases the speed of Unlimited plans to 512
Kbps atleast by 2008.

I guess you got the wrong impression.. These DNS
settings wont increase your speed beyond what your plans
max speed is, it would only help in bringing your actual
speed to the advertised speed for your plan so if you are
getting anywhere near 80% of 256kbps then you are
getting what you should do and anything above that is a
bonus

I used to Download at about 30
Join Date: Dec 2007 Kbps using my plan
Location: Earth, Solar System, Milky Way. And after using the DNS server
Age: 22 ips I still got 30 Kbps

Here's a screen cap of my
speed
By using RapidShare Premium
speed is 200kbps-240kbps.
By using Torrents speed is
220kbps-250kbps.
By using DIRECT HTTP or FTP
speed is 250kbps constant.
