Something you may not know... Cold sores are caused by a
virus -- and the virus that causes cold sores is a variation of
the virus that causes genital herpes. So cold sores and
genital herpes come from the same source, slightly altered.
Now maybe you're surprised by this and maybe you aren't,
but it does seem to expose some double standard irony at
work.
Cold sores are often thought to be a typical condition, not
much to be concerned with, a nuisance as much as
anything. Genital herpes on the other hand often carries a
stigma, and may be considered to be a shameful and even
dangerous infection. Well cold sores and genital herpes are
caused by the same thing -- the herpes simplex virus -- and
are contracted in the same way: skin-to-skin contact. But
the outlook about the two often times couldn't be more
different. If the realities about the cause of cold sores and
genital herpes was more widely known, would opinions
change? Maybe yes, maybe no.
Though cold sore and genital herpes similarities may not
affect attitudes about the two conditions, it does affect
something that's even more important: treatment. Various
remedies can be used to successfully treat both cold sores
and genital herpes. There's one treatment though that
stands out from the rest for various reasons, at least in this
writer's opinion. Zinc. Yes, zinc is a cold sore treatment and
a genital herpes treatment, and an extremely effective one.
As a cold sore treatment and genital herpes treatment, zinc
does a number of good things. Zinc clears cold sore and
genital herpes outbreaks much more quickly than they clear

on their own. Zinc has also been found to reduce and even
prevent future outbreaks. Zinc is also quite easy to find,
doesn't require a prescription, and is generally inexpensive.
Which leads to an important point: the treatment being
discussed here is zinc alone, not in combination with
anything else or added to some product or other. Just zinc.

Neither cold sore nor genital herpes conditions present much
of a real risk to health, despite what popular opinion about
cold sores versus genital herpes might be. But while they
may not be dangerous, cold sores and genital herpes can be
genuinely painful and extremely inconvenient. There have
been treatments for cold sores and genital herpes for some
time now, but zinc is probably not widely recognized as an
effective treatment. Hopefully that will soon change, and
people will begin to make use of what may be the best
remedy of all.
