Longer or shorter NanoFocULs are permitted. The preferred location is at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to facilitate participation by CNMS staff and visitors, and fully utilize facilities and support resources of ORNL’s Center for Computational Sciences and Joint Institute for Computational Sciences. However, other locations will be considered, but need to be justified in the body of the proposal. Budget The average budget of a NanoFocUL is $20,000. Format Describe the proposed format for the NanoFocUL (number of participants; approximate schedule of the talks; needed resources, and so on). Proposal The proposal should be succinct (2-3 pages at most) and organized under the following four topics: Scientific Background Describe the background to the NanoFocUL in 0.5 – 1 pages Motivation and Objectives Describe the specific objectives of the NanoFocUL and its anticipated impact in
the specific area of computational nanoscience. Benefits to the Nanomaterials Theory Institute Describe how the outcome of the workshop will benefit the NTI (e.g., new codes, new users, new expertise, etc). Cited Literature Provide a few key literature references for reviewers Tentative list of participants Name and affiliation of confirmed participants Name and affiliation of a participant contacted but not yet confirmed Name and affiliation of a desired participant who has not yet been contacted
