Integrating activities (I3): projects aiming at structuring better, on a European
scale, the way research infrastructures operate in a given field

I3 should combine, in a closely coordinated manner
(i) Networking activities
(ii) Trans-national access and/or service activities
(iii) Joint research activities.

     All three categories of activities are mandatory as synergistic effects are
     expected from these different components

Research infrastructures ! Underground laboratories

Basic philosophy
! Networks based on physics
   • keep unity of each community
   • structure and favor relations between communities
   • address fundamental topics in ApPEC / ASPERA roadmap

! Joint Research Activities based on technologies
   • favor exchange of technologies among different but nearby research areas
   • save resources by avoiding duplication of problems in different contexts
   • stimulate R&D in key sectors of astroparticle physics
! Transnational Accesses to infrastructures and services
