The President’s Commission on the Status of Women makes Allocation and Endowment Awards for specific proposals during the course of the fiscal year. Both types of funding originate from the Women’s Commission general operating budget. Allocation Awards: General allocations can be used for a variety of purposes such as travel, purchase of supplies, equipment, publication charges, etc. related to events or other projects to support women’s issues. Endowment Awards: Women’s Issue Endowment allocations are more specific and usually focus on research. The Endowment was established during the Capital Campaign to support the conduct or dissemination of research or the organization of programs that focus on issues of concern to women. The awards are intended to encourage the integration of curriculum, research on women, and ongoing efforts to ensure a climate of gender equality at Millersville. * Applicants must be students or a full time member of the faculty, staff or administration of Millersville University. Proposal Guidelines for the Women’s Issues Endowment Award
Purpose:
The Women’s Issues Endowment Award was established to support the conduct or dissemination of research or the organization of programs that focus on issues of concern to women. The awards are intended to encourage integration of the curriculum, research on women, and ongoing efforts to insure a climate of gender equality at Millersville University.
Eligibility:
Recipients must be students at Millersville University or members of the faculty, staff, or administration at Millersville University. Since awards support projects prior to their occurrence, recipients must anticipate being part of the Millersville University community until the project is completed. Awards can be used to cover expenses incurred in research, publication, and/or dissemination expenses directly related to the public programs, seminars, or workshops on women’s issues. The maximum total award per person in any one-year is $500. Awards may be made to one or more projects. The merit of the proposal will determine the total award.
Evaluation Criteria:
Proposed projects will be evaluated according to the degree to which they meet the purpose of the endowment, and whether the project supports one or more of the following goals: The conduct or dissemination of research on issues concerning women. The organization of programs that focus on issues of concern to women. The integration of women’s issues into the curriculum. Efforts to ensure a climate of gender equity at Millersville University.
Priority will be given to projects not fully supported through existing sources of financial support. Applicants are encouraged to seek support from existing sources for travel and training (Noonan Grants, Medal Funds, Faculty Grants, etc.). Procedures:
1. Submit six (6) typed copies to the Women’s Commission Office in the Montour House by Tuesday, April 1, 2008. 2. Proposals must include the following: a. A completed endowment cover sheet (attached) b. An Abstract of 250 typed written words c. A proposal, no more than three pages in length, that includes: A statement of intended activities and how the activity may meet the proposal of the endowment, a time line for making the results public, and a detailed description of a budget associated with the project. 3. Award recipients are encouraged to submit a one-page report to the Women’s Endowment Steering Committee within one year of receiving the grant. A public presentation of research findings and other information sharing is strongly encouraged.

Please attach a type written summary of the event or program including the purpose and rationale as well as a proposed budget for the event or project. Proposals are to be sent to Women’s Commission office at the Montour House located directly across from the SMC. All materials must be returned by April 1, 2008 by 4:00 p.m. The allocations committee of the Women’s Commission will evaluate requests for funding submitted by other campus groups and make recommendations to the Commission. Requests must be tied to the University theme and/or women's issues in order to be considered.
