Proposal to Amend the Constitution & Bylaws
I, Michael Violette, a voting member of the Association in good standing, do propose the
attached amendment to Article 7 of LPOA/FOP’s Constitution & Bylaws for the
following reasons:
In accordance with Roberts Rules of Order’s most current edition, if a vote is to
be taken outside of a membership business meeting of the Association then the
manner and method of doing so shall be contained in the Constitution & Bylaws
of the Association.
Our current Constitution does not provide for a vote of the entire membership
outside of a membership business meeting of the Association other than officer
elections and membership discipline.
From time to time the Association is faced with issues so important that it would
be in the benefit of the Association to poll the entire eligible voting membership
of the Association to express the voice of the membership as a whole.
Although such a vote would be a very rare occurrence, there currently is no
constitutional method available to address this need.
The proposed amendment contains safeguards and sufficient checks and
balances to prevent abuse of this voting method and would not interfere with the
long-standing tradition that the members present at meetings of the Association
will conduct the business of the Association.
Fraternally,
