Postcard to Presentation to Podcast
Use the Calisphere site prepare a Postcard slide show and/or podcast to display on the iPod Touch using Powerpoint on
the Mac and Powerpoint and Windows Movie Maker on the PC
1. Open Powerpoint and add five slides. (INSERT/SLIDE)
On slide #1 start with an introduction. You might want to show a picture of
the Caliphere site. To insert images in an Powerpoint drag them from
websites on to the Powerpoint slide or use the file menu
INSERT/PICTURE/FROM FILE to place them in the Powerpoint.
Slide #2 reflects the "address" side of a postcard. List the title of the
Calisphere photograph, contributing institution and other pertinent
information. Make sure the font size stays as large as possible for viewing
on the iTouch.
Slide #3 is the Photograph from Calisphere. You can download these
images to your computer hard drive from Calisphere by right clicking or
control clicking on the photograph and choosing "save target as" or "save
image as" depending on the Internet browser. You can then add the
photograph to the Powerpoint slide by using INSERT/PICTURE/FROM
FILE in the menu. You can also drag and drop the image on to the
Powerpoint slide from the web.
Slide #4 can be a photograph from the same location that you took or you
found on the web. For web pictures cite sources. Creative Commons is a
good source of photographs that are public. Add picture to slide with the
same instructions as you used on Slide #3
Slide #5 includes the credits for the slide show. Add names of the slide
show creators and any other information you want to include in the credits.
Save your slide show as you work along.
2. Save Powerpoint slides as jpg files (images) to put on the iPod Touch. Choose SAVE AS and then in the drop down
"Format" menu (MAC) or "Save as type" menu (PC) of the save command, choose JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts
Group). Sync to Touch like you would add photos.
PowerPoint to Podcast - MAC
Create slide show as above but do not "SAVE AS" the slides as jpg.
Instead add narration to your Powerpoint.
1. Record a separate narration for each slide. View the slide for your first
narration. Choose INSERT/MOVIES AND SOUND/RECORD SOUND.
Click RECORD button and speak into your computer's microphone.
When complete, click STOP. A little speaker icon will appear on the
middle of your PowerPoint. Pull that speaker off your Powerpoint slide so
it will not show during the presentation. Repeat for each slide.
2. Now preview your presentation by clicking on SLIDE SHOW/VIEW
SHOW in the top menu.
3. Next create a movie of your PowerPoint by choosing FILE/MAKE
MOVIE from the top menu. Save your movie to your hard drive.
4. When the Movie is complete, drag it into iTunes.
so you can sync with your iPod Touch.
5. In you iTunes library, select your movie. Choose
ADVANCED/CONVERT SELECTION FOR IPOD/IPHONE.
6. Once your movie is converted, sync it to your iPod Touch.
PowerPoint to Podcast - PC
Windows Movie Maker to Converter to Podcast - PC
1. Open Windows
Movie Maker on your
PC and click on Import
pictures. Import the jpg
that you exported from
your PowerPoint
(above)
2. Pictures will open
into the collection. Drag
them to the timeline and
put them in order.
3. Connect the
microphone to your
computer and then click
on the Microphone icon.
4. Click the "Start
narration" button in the
"Narrate Timeline" box
that comes up to record
your voice. Click "Stop
Narration" and save
your narration to your
computer.
5. WMM will place that
narration in the
Audio/Music track of
your timeline. Click
Done in the "Narrate
Timeline" box.
6. In the top menu click on FILE/SAVE MOVIE FILE… and Save your movie on "My Computer"
Now convert your movie so you can put it in iTunes to sync to your iPod touch.
Here are two web-based file conversion
programs. Choose one or the other:
If you use Zamzar http://www.zamzar.com/
1. Click the Browse button to locate your
completed WMM file on your computer
2. Choose iPod or iPhone format
3. Type in your e-mail address
4. Click "Convert." Zamzar will send you an e-mail when your video is ready. Then follow the link and download your
video
5. Once your have your video on your computer, pull it into iTunes to sync with your computer
If you use Media-convert http://www.media-convert.com/
1. Choose the "File" radio
button and then click the
Browse button to located your completed WMM file on your computer. Set the "imput format" to Windows Media Video
(.wmv)
2. Now scroll down the
page until you see "Output
format". Select
IPod/IPHONE MP4 Video (.mp4). Now click "I accept the terms" and click OK.
3. Once media-convert completes the task, the screen will tell you your video is ready and you can download it to your
computer and drag it to your iTunes library
4. In you iTunes library, select your movie. Choose ADVANCED/CONVERT SELECTION FOR IPOD/IPHONE.
5. Once your movie is converted, sync it to your iPod Touch
