As one of your constituents, I urge you to support it. I was a smoker for twenty years and know firsthand how difficult it is to quit. I tried three times before I was successful, and then only with the assistance of medication and treatment. While this proposal will have some upfront costs to the state Medicaid program, the eventual return in improved health and reduced health care expenses for illnesses caused by smoking will far exceed the small initial cost.
