BREVINI RIDUTTORI LAUNCHES RANGE OF ATEX COMPLIANT
GEARBOXES.

Brevini Riduttori has introduced a range of ATEX compliant planetary
gearboxes suitable for applications in zones where explosive atmospheres
may occur, and also zones characterised by the presence of gas mixtures
and/or combustible powders (zones 1, 2, 21, 22).

To ensure compliance, every Brevini ATEX gearbox undergoes a special painting
cycle, which avoids the problem of electrostatic discharge, and is supplied with a
specific User Instruction Manual and Conformity Statement according to
CEE94/9/CE Directive, Enclosure VIII.

The ATEX compliant gearboxes are flange-mounted units from Brevini’s ED
(2 stage), ET (3 stage) and EQ (4 stage) series. Supplied with splined female
outputs, these gearboxes are designed for a wide range of industrial and
processing applications, providing nominal torque up to 8,500Nm, transmission
ratios up to 3.300iN and output power up to 50kW.

In common with Brevini’s standard series planetary gearboxes, the ATEX
compliant units are designed to a flexible modular system, which allows the
planetary stages to be combined easily, to match the increasing torque being
transmitted through a gearbox. The ATEX gearboxes also provide the operating
advantages of the traditional planetary design - high efficiency (97% per stage) low
weight, compact size, and low maintenance. These advantages translate into
benefits for the industrial gearbox user, in terms of increased competitiveness and
reduced cost.

                                                                                       2

Commenting upon the launch of the new ATEX gearboxes, Brevini’s Lorenzo
Federici said that: “The arrival of ATEX in 2003 focused everyone’s attention on
the electrical aspects of the new directive, the potential for ignition in hazardous
areas from mechanical sources being ignored by many companies - Brevini not
among them. Our gearboxes are used widely in chemical processing, marine and
petro-chemical applications, so we are aware of the dangers in these environments
and have taken the necessary measures to ensure that our gearboxes can to deal
with them.”
