AGENCY DESCRIPTION: The mission is: The American Red Cross is a humanitarian
organization led by volunteers that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps
people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
The Bergen-Hudson Chapter of the American Red Cross has been helping the
residents of Bergen and Hudson Counties for more than 100 years in combined service.
We currently outreach to approximately 1.5 million residents, and respond to
approximately 156 residential fires each year.
We are a social service organization governed by a Board of Directors of 42 people,
1,800 volunteers and 20,000 donors. The Bergen-Hudson is the 65th largest strategic
unit of a corporation of 1,038 American Red Cross chapters that make up the largest
adult education institution in the United States.
Chapter services include aid to families displaced due to disaster, military service, and
homelessness; blood services, disaster and emergency preparedness; health & safety
training, volunteer and youth services.
The Bergen-Hudson Chapter stands committed to communities in continued service
and education, and advocates for those living in our communities to make a family
disaster plan, make a disaster kit, be a volunteer, donate blood, and learn life saving
skills such as First Aid and CPR. YOUR American Red Cross - together we can save a

the Red Cross is there when Help Can't Wait! You can also help your community
prevent and prepare for some disasters before they strike. We have a very serious
mission - to ease human suffering whenever and wherever we find it. By helping people
around the world when they're affected by war and disaster, the Red Cross promotes
understanding and peace. Whether it is manning the phones, mailing important
information, serving as a Red Cross representative at a Health Fair, or even public
speaking, we have a volunteer avenue for you to explore!
