CABLE TELEVISION FOR CAMPUS DORMS

Cable Television for Campus Dorms

Your dorm room has an active cable jack which you can use to receive basic cable programming. Listed on the back of this sheet is an updated guide of all your favorite channels. Comcast offers individual students the opportunity to upgrade to premium service enabling you to receive additional movie channels such as HBO and HD programming. See the directions below for hooking up your TV, upgrading service and placing a service call.

Getting Started

1. Though there are two cable jacks in each room, usually only one is activated. You will need to provide a cable to connect your TV or VCR to the cable jack. 2. If you would like premium or HD channels, you will need to rent a digital converter box through Comcast Cable Company. Comcast will send out a technician to deliver and setup the digital converter box (see instructions below regarding contacting Comcast). 3. After connecting the coaxial cable from the outlet to the TV or VCR, you may need to reprogram your channels using the menu settings on your remote. Also, use your menu settings if you need to adjust the air/cable setting to display cable. 4. If you need assistance after you have attempted steps 1, 2, and 3 above, call Media Services at 404-471-5468. If we are unable to resolve your problem, we may refer you to Comcast’s repair department (see below). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you would like to make a service call, purchase additional premium channels or request a digital converter box, please follow the steps below:

1. To place a service call, order premium channels or request a digital converter box, call 404.266.2278 (404.COMCAST). A. Since each dorm room has been setup as a separate account, the sales representative will need your address to set up an account in your name. Direct them with the following information: a. Tell them to put your dorm name in the address field. For example if you live in, Walters Hall, 30030 or Winship Hall, 30030 (this is sufficient for them to pull up the account – make sure they put in the comma and you give them the dorm you live in). *** For Comcast purposes, Main Hall is known as Alston Hall b. The representative will then ask for your room number and personal information to finalize your account. B. Please call Emily Gwynn (ext. 6313) if you have trouble setting up an account with Comcast.

**** Please remind the representative that if a technician is dispatched, they must check in with Public Safety in order to receive a work permit badge. This badge should be displayed when performing service-related visits on campus. YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE TO LET THE CABLE TECHNICIAN INTO YOUR DORM ROOM. Make sure the cable technician(s) show proper I.D. before entering your dorm room.
