EVENT: Olympic Team Trials
DATES: Saturday May 3 & Sunday May 4
VENUE: Lake Lanier, Gainesville, Georgia, USA
PURPOSE:
For all of the projects and competition objectives identified below please refer to the 2008
National Team Program for Excellence Handbook for further details.
1. This competition will be used as part of the selection process to determine nominations for
membership on the 2008 Olympic Team.
2. This competition will be used to identify athletes for nomination to the 2008 Continental
Qualifier.
3. This competition will be used to identify athletes for nomination to the 2008 Pan American
Canoe Championships U23 Team.
4. This competition will be used to identify athletes for nomination to the 2008 International
Tour Team.

5. This competition has been identified an eligible opportunity for athletes to achieve a minimum
Senior Card Performance Standard.
COMPETITION SPECIFICS
1. The format will include senior heats, semis and finals only.
2. This competition is open to all athletes:
i. who hold Canadian citizenship or "Permanent Residency status";
and / or
are eligible to race for Canada in international competition in 2008.
and
ii. whose participation is approved by the High Performance Director, a National Team or
Provincial Team Coach, or Club Head Coach who holds full Level 3 NCCP certification.
3. In order to participate, all entrants must be registered with a CanoeKayak Canada (CKC)
member club for the 2008 season and be in "good standing" with CKC and the member club.
Please note, payment for outstanding accounts must be made by cheque or cash . Credit
cards will not be accepted.
4. In order to be eligible to compete, all entrants must complete and submit an original Trials
Entry Form. The athlete must sign this entry form, or their legal guardian sign where the
athlete is less than 16 years of age. Photocopying of the entry form attached to this package is
permitted.
5. In order to be eligible to be selected the athlete must possess a Canadian passport valid for
at least six months from the date of May 2, 2008.
6. A final schedule of events will be produced after receipt of entries. The preliminary program
is as follows:

Men 1000 m Heats, Semifinals, Finals K-1, C-1, K-2, C-2
Women 500 m Heats, Semifinals, Finals K-1 Olympic Selection/Ranking list U23
Sunday:
Men 500 m Heats, Semifinals, Finals K-1, C-1, K-2, C-2

Men 1000m Final K-4 Assessment

The High Performance Committee reserves the right to change published race schedules and
the advancement format in order to provide the fairest possible racing conditions to all
participating athletes.
7. The competition will be run with modified I. C. F. racing rules. Those rules that will be
modified will be reviewed at the Coaches meeting held prior to the competition. ICF
Flatwater Racing Rules can be found on the ICF website www.canoeicf.com
8. Boat Numbers
CanoeKayak Canada will provide boat numbers for this competition.
9. Anti-doping controls may be conducted on a random basis in accordance with the CKC Anti-
Doping Policy and Doping Control Program as described in the 2008 Handbook.
In the 14-day period prior to this competition, athletes and coaches are advised to seek medical
counsel prior to utilizing ANY medications, ointments, drops, nutritional supplements, etc which
may be used for acute or chronic medical conditions. Such advice should be provided by
physicians familiar with the International Olympic Committee's "banned list of drugs" which
can be found on the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport's Drug Classification at www.cces.ca.

REGISTRATION DETAILS:
1. The registration deadline for this competition is Wednesday, April 23, 2008.
Completed registrations must be received in the National Office by 3:00 PM Eastern Time,
Wednesday, April 23rd. After 3:00 PM, any entries that are accepted will be considered a
"post-entry" and a $20.00 post-entry fee will be levied for each event entered. A “post entry”
will only be included if a lane is available. Your cooperation is appreciated, as it is necessary
to allocate lanes, seed heats and prepare the program for the event. Please submit your entry
on time to avoid disappointment.
2. The entry fee for 2008 Olympic Team Trials is $ 125.00 per athlete.
This fee is inclusive of the G.S.T. Make cheques payable to CanoeKayak Canada.
PLEASE NOTE: CREDIT CARDS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

3. Registration forms must be completed in full. All information requested is of critical
importance in implementing High Performance Programs. Each entry form must bear the
original signature of the entrant (parent / guardian where applicable) to meet Doping Control
Program requirements.
4. A meeting of competition organizers and coaches will be held at 7pm on Friday, May 2nd
at the Lake Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club. The purpose of the meeting is to provide final
competition details, to clarify any questions regarding selection criteria and to confirm entries.
