Executive Director’s Memo
TO: All Athletic Commission Personnel
FROM: Charles DeRienzo
DATE: December 12, 2001
SUBJECT: Release of Medical Information of a Boxer
Currently, the Commission has a form that is signed by a boxer that authorizes the
Commission to obtain copies of all medical and/or hospital records, etc. This form
authorizes the Commission to receive information about the boxer, not give out
information. It is illegal for medical information to be released to any institution or
interested party without the boxer’s authorization in writing.
Therefore, effective immediately no medical information is to be released on any boxer
until the interested party or institution provides the Commission with written
authorization, signed by the boxer. The written authorization must be on letterhead that
reflects the inquiring party or institution. A copy of any such request must be kept on file,
in the boxer’s medical folder.
