PROGRESS MEMO Welcome to the Great Strides This is by xzibit

PROGRESS MEMO Welcome to the 2008 Great Strides! This is the first of the weekly progress reports you will receive over the next 8 weeks to keep you informed and motivated. In addition, we’ll share with you exciting news and updates from teams throughout Connecticut, and across the nation! Thank you for joining the 2008 Great Strides. We have officially kicked off this year’s walk and we are on our way toward our goal of $700,000 to exceed the $600,000 raised during 2007’s Connecticut Great Strides. Nationally, Great Strides raised an incredible $34 million in 2007, with a 2008 goal of $40 million. Don’t forget to register for Great Strides on-line at Here you will be able to set up your own personal fund-raising web page, send group e-mails and collect donations online. In addition, Team Leaders will be able to track the progress of their team and team members. By fund-raising online, you can significantly increase your fund-raising and decrease the time you spend! The average online donation is TWICE as much as a “traditional” donation! Give your team something to strive for by setting goals for the number of team members and the amount you will raise as a team. As a guideline, team members in Connecticut raise an average of $304 each. This year, we hope to have 130 new teams in Connecticut to ensure our continued growth, and to bring us even closer to our ultimate goal: A CURE. As we are a relationship-based organization, many of these new teams come from those connected to existing Great Strides participants and volunteers like you! So please help us achieve our goals and ask a friend, colleague, boss, or local business to start their own Great Strides team! As always, thank you all for your unending commitment to finding a cure! Remember…money buys science and science buys life!

Stories from Great Strides across the U.S.!

After Stephanie Davis’ daughter, Faith, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, she rallied her family to put together a team. Two years later, she is the Pin-up Chair for the Sacramento, CA walk. While looking for pin-up partners, she also has recruited two new corporate teams! Blue Northern Builders, her husband and father-in-law’s company, as well as Kleindfelder’s where her father works! Stephanie understands that it will take a whole village to cure CF and she’s getting them involved one step at a time!

Connecticut Companies Committing to CFF

MBI, Inc. in Norwalk is joining up once again for Great Strides! Headed by Team Leader, Brian Clampet, the team brought 26 walkers to the Stamford walk (now Westport), complete with their own t-shirts. In addition, MBI, Inc. donated $1,000 to 2007 Great Strides. This year, Brian and Team MBI, Inc. aim for even more success!
