               NORWOOD SCHOOL ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY

Dear Parents/Guardians:

In the past few years, schools have witnessed an increase in the number of electronic
devices being brought to school. Many of these devices have been electronic games;
however, with the advancement of technology, we are seeing the capabilities of some
devices to now include texting, downloading of music and movies, cell phones with cameras
and internet access and games that promote violent acts. It is very difficult to monitor all
of these devices and does cause consume a considerable amount of time and energy for
school staff to deal with these issues when they arise.

These electronic devices are not part of the educational curriculum and there is little need
for them to be in the school. We have always encouraged students to leave personal items
at home as there is the possibility of personal items being lost, stolen or broken, which
leads to further issues.

In consultation with the Norwood Parent Council, it has been decided personal electronic
devices have no educational purpose at the school. Therefore, effective Monday, February
23, 2009, Norwood School will ask that students not bring any electronic devices to the
school.

We thank you for your understanding and support regarding this matter and ask that if you
have any questions or concerns to please contact the school (780-352-3782).

Sincerely,

Rick Venance
Principal
