scheduling of software installations/upgrades to minimize impact on teaching, and are in the
process of analyzing the results of a survey on citation tool usage to make recommendations to
Computer Services on the needs of the faculty in this area. In addition to my experience as the
current Chair of the committee, I also bring with me to the committee: (a) prior experience on the
committee; (b) significant experience on issues related to distributed education, having served on
several related committees including as chair of the “Best Practices” sub-committee of the DE
Task Force and as a member of the committee developing a student orientation to distributed

Strategic Planning Task Force, as well as the committee that developed an IT contingency plan
in preparation of potential outbreaks of H1N1 or other related potential future events; and (d)

pedagogical practice should be the primary driving force behind decisions related to IT and

Policy/Position Statement (optional):

R&PD committee is uniquely positioned to directly impact faculty scholarship. By serving on
this committee, I have come to learn about the nature of scholarship and the expectations for
faculty scholarship across different schools within our institute. As a result of this, during my
term, the committee initiated a program to intentionally and proactively approach faculty
members within each school and encourage them to apply for R&PD funds. Particularly, the
focus was to include new faculty, as they are unfamiliar with the system. Our goal was to
provide as much information as possible in a more intentional manner that would encourage
more faculty scholarship. These sessions were intended to be ongoing, informal, even one-on-
one sessions by the committee members from each school. We would like to evaluate this
process (set in motion during Fall 2009) after this round of applications and identify areas that
need work. We also started work on moving to an online system starting from proposal
submission through the review process. This online system is in the works and we have a
temporary solution at present, where we have moved to using Blackboard, as a greener
alternative. This is not only in line with the college mission of going green but it is also intended
to help the review process itself, with different benefits for the reviewers (provide a more
complete picture of a proposal from multiple perspectives) and the applicants (focused review
offering substantial feedback). I would like to run for a second term to see the completion of the
works in progress and ensure a smooth transition to the new system.

Policy/Position Statement (optional):
As an active faculty member in the Stockton community I would like to continue my role as
Chair of the Student Services Committee for a number of reasons. I firmly believe that a strong
relationship between the faculty and the student affairs division is beneficial to our students and
for the overall welfare of the college. A shared vision, combined efforts and communal goals
help the two divisions work cohesively and collectively toward the larger mission of our college.

As a member of this committee first and then the Chair for the last two years, I have been able to
become thoroughly involved in the Student Affairs division in several ways. First, I have acted
as a liaison between the academic division and the student affairs area by communicating student
affairs initiatives and encouraging faculty participation in many initiatives including open
houses, undecided fairs, and living learning communities. Second, I have become a committee
member for several initiatives involving student affairs including Faculty Liaison to the career
center and a member of the Alcohol Awareness Task Force. In addition, I represent the faculty
on behalf of the student affairs committee each semester at the Board of Trustees Student Affairs
Committee meetings.

Another reason I desire to continue my role as Student Services Chair is due to my recent
appointment as Faculty Co-Chair for the Middle States Committee Standards 8 & 9. This
position allows me to remain an active member of the student affairs community which enables
me to more thoroughly complete my responsibilities as Co-Chair in order to examine educational
effectiveness in the areas of student admissions and retention and student support services.
