THE JOB DESCRIPTION FOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR, MUNICIPAL LIGHT AND POWER DEPARTMENT IS GIVEN BELOW. THIS POSITION IS NOW OPEN. Incumbent serves as Database Administrator for Municipal Light and Power, responsible for designing policies and procedures that govern the creation and/or maintenance of an effective data model that ensures performance. reliability, and security of the database.
DUTIES:

Manages database configuration and size within the database environment to accommodate current data requirements as well as providing the resources to handle growth. Also manages storage to provide acceptable data access times and resource allocation. The data model should provide an environment where all data applications both in house and from outside sources operate efficiently. Plans and manages the design of custom data applications. This will include creating a database for the application. Table layout and storage requirements. It also includes the management or creation of code for the application. The incumbent will communicate with the Network Administrator and users of the application to accommodate the needs of the users and the network environment. Manages security for all databases. Uses the existing network user schema and/or separate database specific security to create a secure data environment based on department, job function, and user needs. Creates and maintains the backup and restore strategy for all databases. Evaluates databases and designs the backup strategy to ensure reliability and provide for the most efficient and complete recovery of data. Manages database servers. Works with the Network Administ rator to plan for server requirements that are in line with the network environment. Monitors database(s) for tuning, optimization, and upgrading as required. Develops long range planning and budgeting to keep the data environment current and reliable. Maintains current knowledge on technology and upgrades in software as well as new database design

techniques. Performs related duties as assigned. I. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Degree in computer science or related field or a minimum of two (2) years experience as a database administrator. Experience with database technology with an emphasis in Microsoft System Query Language (SQL) Server. In-depth knowledge of Visual Basic and SQL programming and scripting. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system platforms is also required. Familiar with database related web applications. Ability to communicate effectively with both users and other administrators in the technical field. Ability to take information on user needs and organize it into an effective application. Ability to understand personal computers and operating systems, including identifying and correcting problems and operating in the network environment. Ability to pursue professional training and certification. Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
II. DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

Incumbent performs a variety of duties which are broad in scope, requiring consideration of several complex variables and their potential interrelationships in the design and maintenance of database systems. Guidelines are not always clearly applicable to particular situations, calling for individual judgment in selection and modification of standard strategies and procedures to best fit existing problems or circumstances. III. RESPONSIBILITY:

Incumbent performs duties according to standard data communications practices, procedures and policies. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and conclusions, general technical adequacy, and conformance with customary practices and department policy. Unusual problems or situations may be discussed with supervisor at incumbent's discretion.
IV. PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS :

Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other City departments, and the public for the purposes of exchanging information. Reports directly to Network Administrator of Anderson Municipal Light and Power and is linked to the Information Services Department and Substation Technical Group.

V. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment involving sitting for long periods, sitting and walking at will, bending, stooping, crouching/kneeling, close vision, speaking clearly, hearing sounds/communication, handling/grasping/fingering objects, and occasionally climbing ladders and lifting/carrying objects weighing less than 50 pounds.
