The concept of career development was initiated in Thailand through vocational guidance services initiated during the reign of King Rama V in the early 1900s. It is well recognized that the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910) provided a good foundation for western education for Thailand. Career development became fully functional in 1952 under the Department of Vocational Education. Career counseling in Thailand is provided in high schools, vocational institutions, universities, some industrial and business organizations. The function of career work in Thailand focuses more in terms of guidance than career development. It could be said that current career development in Thailand is considered a young essential field that needs to be expanded and supported. Services given at the high school level cover nearly all students and some parents. In conclusion, career counseling is seen as an essential field for the country among school guidance teachers and counseling psychologists.
