When offered the chance to test her engineering skills in the blistering heat and cultural isolation of Nana Kenieba, Mali, in Western Africa, Anne Stockdale did not hesitate. "I said 'Sign me up.'" Stockdale, a 22-year-old materials engineering/chemistry major from Iowa State University, had already been to 16 countries outside the United States.
