Nanotechnology and synthetic biology may be the big buzzwords for the scientific community, but they're mostly unknown to many Americans. A recent poll found that almost half the adults in the US haven't heard of nanotechnology, while nearly nine in 10 Americans said they have heard just a little or nothing about the emerging field of synthetic biology. About half of those polled said they were too unsure about nanotechnology to make an initial judgment on the possible tradeoffs between benefits and risks.
