In an interview, Mat Burton, head of BA World Cargo's offering in India, talked about Hyderabad proven to be lucrative for pharma manufacturers and the development of Hyderabad's "pharma village". Burton said that Hyderabad benefits from a very central location in India and provides good connection points to key supply chain links, and excellent connectivity to a number of stations, both on a local and worldwide basis. Hyderabad is a very favorable location as a cost base; traditionally, manufacturing and production took place in major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai. He added that recent statistics from the Confederation of Indian Industry have shown that pharma is the fastest growing sector in the south of the country, ahead of IT, textiles, agriculture and manufacturing. Pharmaceutical manufacturers are clearly taking advantage of the fact that production costs in India are 40% lower than those in Europe/US and that India has the highest level of FDA approval outside of the US.
