Rising healthcare insurance premiums, health plan and employer pressures for price predictability and the fee structures of hospitals continue to shine a spotlight on the complex subject of hospital charges. Today's healthcare systems need to analyze their overall charges to see if they are fair and reasonable compared with other healthcare providers. They should establish competitive pricing strategies that are defensible, accurate and realistic. At the same time, they need to be aware that patients and payors are going to be concerned with certain charges, including the costs of drugs, devices and implants. Protecting needed revenue, sustaining financial viability and getting access to capital requires strategic pricing intelligence (SPI). Calculating your facility's SPI is imperative to combat tight margins and escalating costs, from labor to supplies.
