Project Management is the planning, monitoring and control of every aspect of a project, and the motivation and coordination of all those involved to achieve the desired outcome on time and to the target cost, quality and specification.
P
roject management is not new, just rediscovered. It is a disciplined approach designed to produce unique results on time and within budget while getting employees involved with a real, measurable goal. Many companies and organizations have discovered the effectiveness of using a project management approach to implement strategic initiatives, provide unique products and services to customers, and involve the right resources at the right time to significantly reduce cost and time. The Xavier Leadership Center offers a comprehensive approach to Project Management that incorporates an orientation to the body of knowledge, specific skill set training, a certification program, risk management live simulation and a review for the PMP® exam. The material is based upon the Project Management Institute’s (PMI®) Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide (PMBOK®) and the Construction Industry Institute’s (CII) research and experiences of project management practitioners. The Xavier Leadership Center is a Registered Education Provider (REP) approved by the PMI, therefore, all courses are PMI certified and qualify for professional development units (PDU’s). Participants will increase their knowledge and demonstrate their skills in project management. Better yet, they will learn to think like project managers. That’s the power of X. Power for a lifetime.

By attending this program, participants learn how to define a project in terms of business need, project objectives, project deliverables and risk. The Ultimate Route® Risk Managment Simulation Experience
S
imulations are a powerful way to help people learn concepts and immediately apply them. These exercises give you the opportunity to practice communication skills, build team cohesiveness, form group decisions and strategies, respond to obstacles and enact solutions in an environment that presents all the challenges and surprises of the real world, without the risks or consequences of making a mistake. The Ultimate Route™ is a live simulation that not only challenges participants to apply and learn risk management concepts, but also reinforces the human dynamics of teams. Just as making effective risk management decisions in organizations requires input and experience from multiple people, to be successful in the game, participating teams must understand risk management concepts and interact effectively with colleagues within a dynamically changing business environment. In this simulation, participant teams are tasked with building a road and they choose from among five different route possibilities. Each team is given data about the five routes and is challenged as unanticipated changes occur throughout the simulation. As each change is introduced, team participants can accept, avoid, transfer or mitigate each risk. Each decision results in either challenging or enhancing their team’s overall performance and progress in building the road. As in the real world, there are tradeoffs as a result of any decision. There is no one pre-determined pathway that leads to success. You “win” the simulation game by doing a good job of assessing the information provided, making sound decisions, working closely with your team and by performing effective project planning. Based on which route you chose, unforeseen risks occur that your team needs to quickly respond to with each successive round in the simulation. As in life, there is time pressure to make the challenging decisions quickly. Each new experience each team faces along the way is influenced by the decisions they made previously. At the end, the “winner” is determined by how well the team planned for and identified certain risks, while adjusting plans and taking counter measures as new factors were introduced throughout the game.
