OVERVIEW
This document describes the steps to install the necessary Software Digital Certificates for the CAISO, Operational Meter Analysis and Reporting (OMAR) system. It assumes the user has a working knowledge of Internet Explorer version 6.

BROWSER REQUIREMENTS
Only Internet Explorer, version 6, is supported by the CAISO for use with the OMAR-Online application.

INDIVIDUAL USER CERTIFICATE
The CAISO’s Information Security Department issues the individual user software digital certificates. If you receive the certificate via email, save it to a secure location for safe keeping and future re-installation needs that may arise.

ISO CERTIFICATE CHAIN
Use your Internet Explorer browser to go to this site: http://www.caiso.com/pubinfo/infosecurity/certs/index.html to bring up the necessary digital certificates to download. This page can also be reached by: 1. going to www.caiso.com 2. clicking ENTER The Operations Center 3. clicking Services (selection option in the blue band near the top of the window) then Information Security 4. clicking CA ISO Digital Certificates and Smart Cards.

To begin each download, click the crt link for one of the three certificates. Each certificate must be downloaded separately.

Clicking on a crt link will bring up the following box:

Click OPEN
Internet Explorer will open the requested certificate.

This will bring up the Certificate Import Wizard. Click NEXT.

Make sure the first option, “Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate” is selected. Click NEXT.

The import wizard notifies the user the import was successful. Click OK.
Repeat this process for the other two certificates.

Configure Certificate Properties Once all certificates are installed using the preceding instructions, the next step involves configuring their properties. Click Tools, and choose Internet Options from the file menu.

Click the CONTENT tab at the top of the Internet Options box. Then click CERTIFICATES.

The certificates installed on user’s workstation will show. Under the Personal tab, all of the user’s certificates (ie. OMAR-Online) will display. In order to view the properties of a specific certificate, select the certificate and click View.

View will display the certificate’s information. Click the Details tab, and then Edit Properties on the next screen.

Ensure that the Friendly name matches the user certificate, the “Enable all purposes for this certificate” radio button is selected, and all of the boxes shaded are checked, as shown below. Click OK when finished.

Go back to the main certificates screen where personal certificates are displayed. Click the Intermediate Certification Authorities tab. The first three authorities shown should be the three files downloaded from the CAISO website. Click CLOSE when done.
