If an ambulance service is provided to a person, the fee prescribed under the
Ambulance Service Regulation is payable by that person.
 Resident                It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure the invoice is paid, however:
 New South Wales         If the patient holds a pensioner/health care card, the Ambulance Service
                         of NSW will pay for emergency ambulance services provided by QAS in
                         Queensland. Payment of non-emergency accounts is the responsibility of the
                         individual.
 Australian Capital      If the patient is a member of the ACT Ambulance Subscription Scheme, the
 Territory               individual should contact NIB Health Fund to discuss payment of the invoice.
 Victoria                If the patient is a Victoria Ambulance Service member or holds a pension/
                         health care card, the Metropolitan Ambulance Service or Rural Ambulance
                         Victoria will pay for ambulance transport in Queensland.
 Tasmania                The individual named on the invoice.
 South Australia         If you are a member of Ambulance Cover with SA Ambulance Service and
                         require ambulance transport whilst visiting interstate, you will be fully covered
                         for all emergency and medically justified non-emergency transport, except
                         where a third party is responsible.
 Western Australia       If the patient is covered for ambulances services by St John Ambulance (WA),
                         the individual should contact St John for advice on payment. If the patient
                         holds an aged pension card at the time of emergency transport in Queensland,
                         St John Ambulance (WA) will pay the account.
 Northern Territory      If the patient is a member of the St John Ambulance Service Subscription
                         Scheme, St John Ambulance (NT) will pay for ambulance transport.
 International           International residents must pay the account in Australian Dollars. The
 Residents               preferred method of payment is by credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or bank
                         draft in Australian Dollars. Personal cheques are not accepted. The individual
                         may be able to seek reimbursement from their travel insurer.
 Eligible Veterans       An interstate Veteran holding a Gold Card or White Card issued by the
                         Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) should notify the QAS of their DVA file
                         number.
Regulations of the Ambulance Service Act, 1991 do not make provision for delayed settlement of account.
An invoice will be raised and sent to the mailing address recorded in the electronic Ambulance Report Form.
Instructions for payment are shown on the reverse side of the invoice and its attached fact sheet.
Interstate/overseas residents may be able to seek reimbursement from their State/Territory Ambulance Service,
Health Insurance Fund or Travel Insurance.
