The Naugatuck Senior Centers by keara

									                       The Naugatuck Senior Center
300 Meadow Street, Naugatuck, Connecticut 06770
        Opened Monday-Friday; 7:30 A.M. – 4 P.M. JUNE, 2008

              Harvey Leon Frydman, Director/Co-Municipal Agent
Margie Paul, a member of the Naugatuck Arts Commission called me one
April afternoon about a creative and interesting program idea that the Arts
Commission wanted to coordinate with the Naugatuck Senior Center. I invited her
to visit me to further discuss this program. Ten minutes after Margie hung up the
telephone, she was at the senior center and sharing with me her exciting news.
The Naugatuck Arts Commission wanted to provide a complimentary ticket to
twenty five members of the Naugatuck Senior Center to see a live stage
performance at the Seven Angels Theatre, located in Waterbury, Connecticut.
“What a great idea! I know that our seniors would love to attend a live stage
performance at Seven Angels Theatre. Let’s get busy and plan this fun event!” I
said. Within minutes Margie and I had contacted the theatre, found out what
would be showing during the month of June and what dates where available. It
was hoped that Seven Angels would be presenting a lively musical, something
uplifting, that would have us whistling a tune when we left our seats at the theatre.
We were in luck! A musical called FLASHBACK is on the summer schedule at
Seven Angels. FLASHBACK is a revisit of the music, fads and fashion of the
1960’s. If you recall, the 1960’s were a time of JFK, The Beatles, bellbottoms,
peace and love. FLASHBACK will rekindle the songs of Peter, Paul and Mary,
Diana Ross and The Supremes, Andy Williams, The Beach Boys, Herb Alpert
and the Tijuana Brass, The Mamas and The Papas, and Sonny and Cher!
This joint venture with the Naugatuck Arts Commission will take place at
SEVEN ANGELS THEATRE, 1 Plank Road, Waterbury, Connecticut, on
THURSDAY, JUNE 5, 2008, 1 P.M. – 4 P.M. Those attending the program will
have the opportunity to participate in Seven Angle’s THEATRE 101 class, taking
a backstage visit through the theatre and a meeting with some of the
FLASHBACK performers. So if you are interested in participating in this
Naugatuck Arts Commission sponsored cultural event, and ready to get out your
old Pukkah shell necklaces and Mood Rings, please visit the office of the
Naugatuck Senior Center and add your name to the attendance list. There will be
only twenty five complimentary tickets available for this theatrical presentation.
Transportation to Seven Angels Theatre will be “on your own” so it is hoped
that many of our participating seniors will be able to “pool a ride”.
I want to thank Margie Paul and the Naugatuck Arts Commission for their
generous contribution in sponsoring this special cultural arts event. Their
thoughtfulness, continuous interest and friendship given to the Naugatuck Senior
Center are greatly appreciated.
Please take a look at the JUNE issue of the Carriage House Courier and fill your
calendar with a variety of the special events, activities, and day trips offered at the
always busy Naugatuck Senior Center.
Sincerely yours,
Harvey Leon Frydman

On February 17, 2009, the nation’s over the air local television stations are
transforming from an old system known as “analog” broadcasting to a new system
known as “digital” broadcasting. At that time, TV stations will stop transmitting
their programs in analog technology and will start transmitting them only in
digital. Because there may be some confusion about the broadcast digital
transition, Comcast will present some helpful information in understanding this

The Connecticut Statewide Respite Program offers daytime or overnight relief for
caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s or related dementias. The task of
caring for a person with dementia is overwhelming. Family caregivers often
develop stress related illnesses such as heart disease, hypertension, or ulcers. An
occasional break allows an exhausted caregiver to regroup, both physically and
emotionally, and to find the strength to carry on.
The Connecticut Statewide Respite Care Program is funded by the State
Department of Social Services and is operated in partnership wit the Alzheimer’s
Association Chapters of Connecticut and the Connecticut Area Agencies on
Aging. The program offers caregivers the opportunity to receive an assessment of
services needed and have a care plan developed and/or purchase services for the
individual with dementia. Eligible families may apply for daytime or overnight
respite care services including: Adult day care, home health aide,
homemaker/companion, skilled nursing care or short term nursing care. To apply
for the Connecticut Statewide Respite Care Program and for further information,
call the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging at 1-203-757-5449 and
         request an application.
Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders
The State of Connecticut wants to give you an opportunity to stay home instead of
going to a nursing home. That is the purpose of a home care program for persons
65 years of age and older called the Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders.
To see if you qualify for any of the services from this program, please visit the
Naugatuck Senior Center or call 720-7069 for a REQUEST FORM. For further
information call 1-800-445-5394.
