Dear Class of ’10
You made it. You are graduating, leaving behind favorite teachers, old
12
friends and most importantly, a record of personal achievement. When
you put on that cap and gown, look in the mirror. Stand proud. You didn’t
make it this far by accident. No one let you get your high school diploma,
you had to earn it.
As you face many new choices, remember what it takes to succeed.
When I was in high school, I ran track. Winning required much more than
loving to run. Those blue ribbons and gold medals required hours and
LIFESTYLE hours of practice; paying attention to the advice of my coach; correcting
my mistakes and doing my very best. The same lessons can be applied to
school, and to life.
16
To the Class of ’11, Class of ’12 and Class of ’13, I know you are looking
forward to summer vacation. When you return to high school make the
most of every opportunity. Your turn is coming. There is a cap and gown,
and a diploma in your future, too.

Fist
by Noe Martinez
As she laid in that dark corner haunted by all her fears
She felt the bruises that had caused so many tears
The warm blood ran down her nose and stained her shirt
The red was a vivid color next to the brown stains of dirt
Her husband was violent and had a temper
He was intoxicated which made her more scare
She was hurt physically and also emotionally
She wanted to leave but her husband disagree
She managed to get away from him for a while
but he grabbed her hair, dragged her against the tile
Threw her against the wall and busted her lip
In full rage she swung at him with a broom stick
Knocked him to the floor; turned to the open door
And thought she had put up with enough
So she went to the room and grabbed her stuff
She realized how violence had scarred her life
but no more will she have a sleepless night
Never again will she have to taste her own fresh blood
And be with someone that uses their fist to show love.
