Further information on Victoria University can be accessed via www.vu.edu.au The Australian Centre for Event Management, University of Technology, Sydney The Australian Centre for Event Management (ACEM), University of Technology, Sydney was founded just prior to the successful delivery of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. ACEM’s mission is to provide training/education, research and consultancy services to the event industry. Since its establishment, ACEM has become a world leader in the field of event management education, delivering training programs both within Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne, Alice Springs, Sydney and Perth) and internationally (London, Beijing, Edinburgh, Kuala Lumpur and Kuching). These programs range from Executive Development Programs to Masters Degrees in Event Management. ACEM’s success as a global leader in event management education is underpinned by its staff. Their experience spans both the areas of corporate and public event management, with events they have conducted ranging in scale from the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games to product launches and association conferences. To support its programs, ACEM has developed one of the fields most referred to texts: Festival and Special Event Management. About the course The Executive Certificate in Event Management is a short course program (four days) designed to provide a foundation of key skills and knowledge associated with the creation and delivery of corporate (e.g. product launches, conferences, functions, fundraising events), private (e.g. parties, weddings) and public events (e.g. festivals, street parades, fairs and sporting events). Who is the course for? The program has been designed to both enhance the professional skill and knowledge base of those already employed within the event industry and to serve as a sound platform for people wishing to launch careers in the exciting and varied field of event management. Past graduates of this program have secured, or been successful in advancing their careers in, a variety of event related positions, including: corporate in-house event managers; festival organisers; conference/meeting planners; charity event coordinators; parade directors; wedding planners; special event organisers; government event planners/coordinators; sport event managers; hotel/resort/cruise ship based event coordinators; and exhibition organisers. What will participants learn? The focus of the Executive Certificate in Event Management is on developing an understanding of the theory and practice of creating and delivering various types of events. The course content is based on the results of an extensive survey of event management professionals. All students who undertake the program will receive a jointly badged Certificate from Victoria University and the Australian Centre for Event Management, University of Technology, Sydney acknowledging their participation. The program will be delivered by employing a mix of lectures, class exercises and case studies over a four day period commencing at 9am and finishing at 5.00pm. Rob Harris, Director, Australian Centre for Event Management Rob is a Senior Lecturer and the Director, Australian Centre for Event Management, University of Technology, Sydney. Rob has been involved in event management training, education and curriculum development for over 10 years and was a foundation Director of the Festivals and Events Association of Australia. He has an international reputation as an event management educator having delivered programs through to Masters degree level in a variety of locations around the world including the United Kingdom, Malaysia, China and New Zealand, as well as throughout Australia. Rob is a co-author of the texts Festival and Special Event Management and the Regional Event Management Handbook, as well as a number of event related journal articles. He is on the editorial board of the international journal Event Management, and is the founder of the recently established Event Education and Research Network Australasia. Johnny Allen, Associate Director, Australian Centre for Event Management Johnny is the Foundation Director of the Australian Centre for Event Management and an adjunct lecturer at the School of Leisure, Sport and Tourism, University of Technology, Sydney. Johnny has over 30 years experience in the field of event management during which time he has been involved in the development and delivery of well over 1000, mainly public events ranging in scale from a few hundred people to large outdoor celebrations approaching 250,000 attendees. Prior to joining ACEM, Johnny was employed as Special Events Manager for Tourism NSW and Special Events Manager for the Darling Harbour Authority in Sydney.
