Mickelson Jr. High (Brookings) and Axtell Middle School Officer Clark Baker
                                                                                                                                    Officer Doug Simmons
(Sioux Falls).
Here’s how it works: 1. Get a container for each home room
2. Decide on the length of the contest (five days works well)
3. The homeroom with the most penny’s in it’s container at
the end of the week wins. But wait, silver or paper money
counts against your total. So, if I’m in Mrs. Smith’s home-
room, I want to slip a dollar in Mr. Green’s container to can-
cel out 100 pennies…. And the war is on! 4. The kids in the
winning homeroom are treated to a pizza party or a similar
event at the end of the competition.
According to Axtell Jr. High Resource Officer Doug
Simmons, “The kids and teachers really get in to this
event. Not only are we raising money for a great cause,
but it’s a blast for everyone!”
For more information on how to conduct a Penny War,
please contact the State Office.
