Revision Date December 3, 2008 Spec_006 - Version 2.0 Architectural Specification Sheet HEBEL SUPERCRETE COMMERCIAL INDUSTRIAL WALL SYSTEMS - SUPERCOAT PAINT 1. GENERAL This section covers general surface preparation of Hebel Supercrete Commercial Industrial Wall Systems, sealing and painting using Supercoat Paint. The applicator shall be suitably skilled and experienced to perform the tasks required. The applicator remains solely responsible for completion, quality and assurance of their work. Any amendment to this specification sheet shall be formerly agreed in writing between the applicator and the project designer before work shall proceed. 1.1 REFERENCED DOCUMENTS Documents referred to in this specification are: a) Health & Safety in Employment Act 1992 b) Supercoat Coating Systems Technical Manual c) Supercoat Coating Systems Training Manual d) www.hebel.co.nz/coatings/index.php 1.2 NO SUBSTITUTIONS Substitutions are not permitted to any specified Supercoat Coating System, or associated components and products. 1.3 LICENCED APPLICATORS All work must be carried out by Licenced Supercoat Coating System applicators. 1.4 HEALTH & SAFETY Site personnel shall comply with all requirements set down by the Health & Safety in Employment Act 1992 including the obligations: a) To refer to the Material Safety Data Sheets for each Supercoat product located at www.hebel.co.nz/coatings/index.php . b) Keep the main contractor, employees and sub contractors informed of any on site hazards and put in place procedures for dealing with emergencies. c) Supply suitable protective clothing and equipment. 1.5 SAMPLE PREPARATIONS Prepare samples of the finished work as scheduled, this shall include preparation and colour as specified in section 4.0) Specified Coating System Selections. Obtain approval of appearance and location from the main contractor before proceeding. 2. SPECIFIED PRODUCTS 2.1 SUPERCOAT SURFACE SEALER Supercoat Surface Sealer is the only permitted sealer/primer. Supercoat Surface Sealer is guaranteed for consistency and performance under the manufacturers product warranty and in accordance with the technical data & information sheets located at www.hebel.co.nz/coatings/index.php. Supercoat Paint is guaranteed for consistency and performance under the manufacturers product warranty and in accordance with the technical data & information sheets located at www.hebel.co.nz/coatings/index.php . 3. EXECUTION 3.1 INSPECTION The Applicator shall inspect the Hebel Supercrete Commercial Industrial Wall System substrate to be coated and report to the main contractor if the applicator believes that work cannot be completed to the required standard due to the condition of the block surface. 3.2 PROTECTION All adjoining surfaces and areas susceptible to damage from coating or paint over-spill must be covered and protected accordingly by the applicator. 3.3 HARDWARE REMOVAL Remove, or mask and protect, any hardware or fittings and replace upon completion. Do not coat or paint over permanently attached hardware items which cannot be removed. 3.4 PRIMING & SEALING OF JOINTS Ensure that all priming and sealing to control joints, openings and penetrations is complete prior to applying any finishes. 3.5 EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Ensure that work is conducted within the acceptable temperature range of each product as per the applicator and technical data sheets located at www.hebel.co.nz/coatings/index.php . 3.6 FINAL APPLICATION SELECTIONS Confirm all selections, colours and finishes for Supercoat paint. 3.7 PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATES & CORRESPONDING SURFACES Prepare all surfaces to be coated to the requirements of the Supercoat Coating Systems Technical manual located at www.hebel.co.nz/coatings/index.php . 3.8 APPLICATION Apply Supercoat Paint by brush, roller or spray equipment (if permitted) to a uniform thickness and colour to the requirements of the Supercoat Coating System specifications. Do not spray on site without express permission from the main contractor. 3.9 SUPERCOAT SPECIFICATIONS Refer to Supercoat Coating System Technical Manual located at www.hebel.co.nz/coatings/index.php for surface preparation, coating sequence and application requirements as they apply to each system. Defective work is to be corrected immediately, with any remedial recoating following the system requirements. 3.10 BETWEEN COATS Between the layers of the coating system remove any dust pick up, protruding fibres and/or coarse particles. 3.11 FINISHED SUPERCOAT PAINT SURFACES All finished paint surfaces are to show uniformity of gloss and colour, to have the correct thickness for each coat, and be free from painting defects such as tackiness and conspicuous brush marks. Finished work shall be free of any chips, scrapes, protrusions, or blemishes which do not form part of the required surface finish. Revision Date December 3, 2008 Spec_006 - Version 2.0 Architectural Specification Sheet 3.12 CLEANUP Clean all adjoining surfaces, glass and fittings of any paint or coating over-spill. 3.14 HARDWARE REPLACEMENT Where hardware has been removed to complete the coatings, it shall be re-installed without causing damage to the hardware or any adjoining surfaces. 3.15 RUBBISH REMOVAL Remove from the site unused painting and coating materials, equipment and rubbish. 4.0 SELECTIONS 4.1 EXTERIOR COATING SYSTEM Refer to the Supercoat online specifications for the different coating systems for each of the Hebel Supercrete substrate types. Refer to the Supercoat Technical Manual for surface preparations, coating sequence and weather tightness specifications.
