Document A: Abstract Form for Submission of Case Study Report

                  "Innovations in Science and Technology in Developing Countries"
                                              A project sponsored by:
               the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for the South (ISTIC) and
                              TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world.

We are interested in receiving reports on successful initiatives from developing countries that describe how science and
technology have been used to develop innovative new products, processes or services that have been had impacts on
economic development in the South.
The project involves three phases:
Phase 1 – The collection of case-study summaries outlining how innovations in science and technology have had an
impact in the South. If you are interested in submitting such a report, please complete the form below and return it to
TWAS by 31 May 2010. Replies will be screened and, by 30 June 2010 approximately 15 candidates will be invited to
prepare full-length reports (to be submitted by 31 July 2010) detailing their successful experience (a template will be
Phase 2 - Successful candidates will also be asked to share their experiences in a workshop to be held in Malaysia on 6-
7 September 2010. During the workshop, an expert committee will evaluate all presentations and select the best three
for monetary awards of US$5,000, US$3,000 and US$2,000 for first, second and third places, respectively.
Phase 3 - A book containing edited versions of the case studies will be prepared by ISTIC and TWAS for distribution
throughout the South and made available freely on-line.
