									SQL/Oracle Database Administrator
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is for a senior DBA with between 3-5 years experience with production MS SQL
Server and/or Oracle environments (OLTP and/or OLAP). Candidates must possess strong
interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates must be willing to travel as a consultant to
client project sites and professionally deliver database based technology solutions.

The role will support a variety of Oracle and SQL Server specific solutions including, but not
limited to; MS SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 and Oracle 9i, 10g, 11g database implementations,
Oracle Enterprise Edition options (RAC, Data Guard, etc), SQL Server clustering and mirroring,
implementations of SQL Server systems for enterprise application suites and web (.NET)
application systems, Oracle Fusion middleware/application server, and configuring backup
solutions.

DUTIES
 Install and configure SQL Server and Oracle database environments
 Perform architecture and design of Oracle and SQL Server data structures for clients
 Install, configure and implement SQL Server stand-by solutions using SQL replication
   methods
 Design relational database schemas utilizing common and three-tiered database structures
 Perform database tuning and administrative functions for production and data warehousing
   environments. Conduct performance analysis of database environments from storage
   through operating system
 Perform Oracle and SQL Server upgrades, patching and other administrative functions for
   clients. Migrate customers from Oracle to SQL, SQL to Oracle, Unix to Linux (Oracle), etc a
   strong plus
 Engage to identify performance bottlenecks through best-practice Oracle and SQL Server
   tuning and performance analysis methods. Provide architecture “best practice”
   recommendations
 Communicate projected timeline, develop applications according to customer specifications,
   provide detailed documentation of project work, and work with other consultants to provide
   quality solutions to its clients.
 Install, configure and deploy Oracle (RAC, Data Guard, virtualization) and SQL Server
   (clustering, virtualization) based high-availability solutions on supported operating platforms

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND EDUCATION
 Certified Oracle and/or SQL Server DBA preferred
 Fluent understanding of Oracle and/or SQL Server RDBMS engine
 Strong installation experience for Oracle and/or SQL Server DB and application server in
   highly available mission-critical systems
 Strong experience working with Oracle and/or SQL Server support for fast issue resolution on
   client environments
 Understanding of various backup configurations – using third party “hot” agents with SQL
   Server and Windows backup utilities – Oracle RMAN and Flashback technologies
 Understanding of how to properly recommend disk space, RAM and CPU capacities related to
   “sizing” an Oracle and/or SQL Server environment
 Strong disk “layout” experience for performance critical database environments
 Experience with Oracle (9i, 10g, 11g) and/or SQL Server (2000, 2005, 2008) in test,
   development, QA and production environments in single or multi-tiered deployments
 Experience with MS SQL Server Administration and Event Monitoring
 Installation and administrative experience with Oracle Application Server a strong plus

   Strong operating system experience in Windows, Unix, Linux, HP-UX for installation purposes
   Experience with Oracle advanced security options (Advanced Security, TDE, Label Security) a
    strong plus
   Four-year BS in Computer Science preferred, or at least three years work experience in
    Oracle and/or SQL Server-focused application development

 Reports internally to the Regional Services Manager and works with Database Practice
   Manager and/or Project Manager(s) to ensure project milestones and target dates are met.
 Reports externally to the client project manager.
 General setting of goals and objectives without direct day-to-day supervision.
