							                        Phi Theta Kappa Officer Job Descriptions

PRESIDENT – Preside at all chapter meetings. Be the chapter’s representative to the
college including meeting with the campus President in May to present the Chapter’s
Planned Year’s Program and Budget and attend 3 consecutive Board of Trustees meetings to
report on student organizations. Also represent the chapter to the Michigan Region, and Phi
Theta Kappa International. Be the chapter’s representative to the communities of southeast
Oakland County and outside service organizations as appropriate. These responsibilities may
be delegated to the Executive Vice President as needed and appropriate.

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT – Serve as the President’s representative as needed,
appropriate, or requested to do so. Coordinates visitations to our sister chapters (OCC-AH,
OCC-HL, OCC-OR, Macomb Com. Col., and Wayne County Com. Col.)

LEADERSHIP VICE PRESIDENT - Proposes leadership training for members, such as
chairperson training and prospective officer orientation. Chairs such events if no other
member volunteers to do so. Arranges the Officer training session for late April or early
May.

SCHOLARSHIP VICE PRESIDENT - Proposes scholarship activities and events for the
members and the campus/college community. Keeps the membership informed of upcoming
Satellite Seminars during the fall term including topic, date, time, and location. Chairs such
events if no other member volunteers to do so.

SERVICE VICE PRESIDENT - Proposes service activities and events for the members
and the campus, college, and community. Chairs such events if no other member volunteers
to do so.

RECORDING SECRETARY – Takes and distributes minutes of all Board, membership,
and special meetings. Maintains correspondence file as needed.

TREASURER – Maintains record of all chapter fund raising activities and expenditures. All
chapter funds must by college policy be submitted to the college. Supervised all chapter fund
raising activities. Chairs such events if no other member volunteers to do so.


                Phi Theta Kappa Officer Requirements and Expectations

   1.      Must maintain a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA
   2.      Must take at least 1 credit during both the fall and winter terms
   3.      Must attend at least one meeting per month
   4.      Must write or assist in writing at least one Hallmark submission
   5.      Must attend and participate in the Chapter Officer Training at the beginning of
           year of service
   6.      Must attend and participate in the Chapter Planned Year’s Program Planning and
           Budget meeting at the beginning of year of service

   Optional (These travel opportunities will be based on available chapter funding)
   7.     Must be able to attend all three Regional meetings
   8.     Must be able to attend the International Convention
