Position Open: Marketing Director
The Director of Marketing/Media Relations is a full-time, 40 hour/week position
working with the Director of Membership/Public Relations and reporting to the
Director. Experience in museum/cultural marketing is required.
The Director of Marketing is responsible for communicating the Museum’s
mission and program information to its members, local, regional, New England,
special, and other audiences. Success is measured by increased visitation, and
participation in Museum programs.
To this end, the Marketing Director will:
1. Create and implement – subject to the Director’s approval – a multi-
dimensional, practical, Marketing Plan to include:
• Other electronic venues
• Print Media
• Community Access Television
• Signage (Billboards)
• Fliers and Brochures
2. Promote Museum programs including: exhibitions, lectures,
demonstrations, classes, openings, parties and other functions, working
with the designer and printer to produce and disseminate timely notices
and invitations for these events.
3. Write and disseminate press releases concerning the above and
other newsworthy events (such as new acquisitions) arranging press
conferences and previews.
4. Three times a year: fall, winter and spring, write and, with the designer
and a printer produce and disseminate a calendar of events and
5. Develop and implement an energetic, practical, plan to promote fully the
Museum’s two major fundraising events: the Holly berry Faire and Art In
6. Respond in timely fashion and in a manner consistent with the Museum’s
interests to Media requests for information. In this regard, the Marketing
Director will thoroughly understand the Museum’s interests, seeking
advice from the Director when these are unclear.
He or she will be familiar with the intent, spirit and content of all Museum
policies, especially those concerning confidentiality, security, emergencies
He or she will be sensitive to the privacy, and, when stipulated, the
anonymity, of trustees, staff, donors, lenders, exhibitors, and others of the
Museum family referring questions concerning these individuals and
other by the press to the Director.
In the event of an emergency, fire, theft, accident (c.f. Guard’s Manual and
Handbook for Emergenicies) the Marketing Director/Media Relations
will, with the Director, write and disseminate a press release, referring all
inquiries to the Director.
7. The Marketing Director/Media Relations shall attend all staff and other
meetings requested by the Director.
8. Perform other Museum-related tasks requested by the Director
The right candidate will be experienced in museum/cultural marketing
communication. He or she will possess excellent verbal, written, and
interpersonal skills, be creative, flexible, and able to work in a small office
