Policies for Graduate Certificate Programs @ KSU All Graduate Certificate Programs require the approval of KSU curriculum committees and the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. The guidelines/forms for Certificate Program Approval are available at www.kennesaw.edu/gpcc. (1) Each certificate program will develop an application procedure for admission to the Certificate Program that is distinct from application for admission to the KSU graduate program. Students must apply for and be officially admitted to a KSU Graduate Certificate Program, even if currently enrolled in the Graduate Program hosting the Graduate Certificate program. A student wishing to pursue a certificate who is not enrolled at KSU as a graduate student must apply for admission to the certificate program. Program requirements will determine whether the student should apply for “degree or “non-degree” status. Standards for admission to the Graduate Certificate Program must mirror the requirements of admission to the Graduate Program hosting the Graduate Degree Program. A currently-enrolled student wishing to pursue a certificate must indicate his or her intent to do so, by application, prior to registering for the third course in the certificate. When the student has completed all certificate requirements, the Graduate Program Director will notify the Registrar, in writing, that the student will be awarded the certificate. The graduate program hosting the certificate program will be responsible for the administration of certificate programs and for monitoring and assessing these programs. The Graduate Dean will have oversight of all certificate programs. Each certificate program will be comprised of a minimum of 12 graduate credit hours. At least 6 of these credit hours should be designated as required courses. Programs should allow at least one elective course, and all potential elective courses (no more than four) should be clearly specified. Programs may specify requirements for the certificate program beyond credit hours (e.g. internships, projects, etc.). Certificate completion will be noted on the student’s official transcript. Up to nine credit hours of courses taken toward the certificate under the non-degree status may be applied toward an appropriate degree program at KSU, at the discretion of the program director, at the time of admission to the KSU degree program. In order to complete a Certificate, a student enrolled in a KSU graduate program must complete at least 6 credit hours beyond credit required for the graduate degree. In order to complete a Certificate, a student not currently enrolled in another KSU graduate program must complete at a minimum of 12 credit hours. Certificate programs must be approved through the process specified for graduate program/course approval outlined by KSU and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
