WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH 2008
“Women’s Art: Women’s Vision”
Calendar of Events Registration Form
Throughout history, women of all ethnic and social backgrounds have contributed tremendously to the growth and progress of the United States. In 1987, Congress enacted a law to formally designate every March as Women’s History Month. This year, Americans across the country will celebrate Women’s Art: Women’s Vision recognizing the vision of women artist. The goal of the theme is to represent the diverse forms of art including painting, sculpture, weaving, pottery, embroidery, hula and chant, as well as forms from modern media art,. As is always the goal with Women’s History Month, the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women takes this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the courage, determination and steadfastness of the Women of Hawaii. The Commission and it’s partner’s; the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture & Arts, Hawai’i Arts Alliance, the Honolulu Academy Art Center, L.A.C.E. and GirlFest, among others are working to create a state wide celebration which highlights women’s art and women artist in multiple venues and across multiple media. The calendar will connect activities across the state, starting on January 2008 and leading up to Women’s History Month, March 2008, that highlight women’s contribution to the arts in Hawaii. Please provide the information below to include your organization’s event in the 2008 Women’s History Month, Women’s Art: Women’s Vision Calendar of Events.
