ESL letter to parents

Dear Parent or Guardian of __________________:

       We have selected your son or daughter to participate in our program
of English as a Second Language, called ESL, which offers instruction in
English to eligible students. We have used a state – approved test, including
an individual interview with the teacher, to help make this evaluation of your
child’s needs. Based on the results of the test, your child is eligible for the
ESL program. In this program, children have at least thirty minutes of
instruction every day with a teacher who is a specialist in teaching English
as a Second Language.

       If you have questions about the ESL program or if you want to discuss
the selection process, please contact the ESL teacher at your child’s school.
As a parent or guardian, you also have the right to decline these services that
we offer to your child. If you do not want your child to participate in the
English as a Second Language program, return the attached form to the
teacher within five days after you receive this letter.

       We recommend that you take advantage of this specialized instruction
plan to help your child learn English. If you do not contact us, your child
will automatically participate in the recommended ESL instruction.

      We are interested in hearing your ideas about our program for English
language learning. If you would like to participate in our Parent Advisory
Council for the ESL/Bilingual Program, please let us know on the attached
