Sports Physics: Linear Motion Calendar
Objectives: A student will be able to... 1. define the term "kinematics." 2. demonstrate an understanding of frames of reference. 3. differentiate between position and displacement 4. describe the motion of an object by constructing a graph of position vs. time, given the appropriate values 5. express the change in position using the delta notation. 6. identify the parts of a position vs. time graph where the motion of an object is constant, and determine the velocity of the object in those regions. 7. distinguish between instantaneous and average velocity 8. find any one of three variables in vave = x/t 9. construct a velocity vs. time graph from a graph of position vs. time 10. define the term "acceleration," and find any one of three variables in a = v/t 11. determine the acceleration at any point on a velocity vs. time graph 12. determine the velocity, acceleration, and position of an object at any given time when it released with a given initial velocity. Neglect air resistance. 13. understand the meaning of the area under the curve on a velocity-time graph and be able to calculate the displacement from such a graph 14. be able to work with the kinematic equations for uniformly accelerated motion. 15. be able to solve problems of the motion of objects uniformly accelerated by gravity, including reaction time and hang time problems.
