Military Service in the 110th Congress
The 110th Congress includes 29 senators and 100 representatives with
some military experience, as shown in this chart. Each line represents a cur-
rent member, starting with the year their military service began and ending
when they retired or were discharged. Many members’ military experience
came during Vietnam-era stints. In contrast, members with service in recent
years tend to be career officers and long-time reservists. On the whole,
however, military service among members is in decline.
