Scientific Products was a provider of bio-medical equipment and supplies to hospital and research laboratories. The Basic School was a five-week introductory training program for new-hire field service representatives from across the country. When Richard assumed control, the school was deemed a general failure, as the average economic break-even point for graduates was 18 to 24 months. Richard extended the course to eight weeks, completely restructured the training, created new lesson materials, and revised the testing process. After two years of operation, the break-even point for Richard’s graduates had proven to be six months or less. While in the employ of Manatee Community College, Richard was responsible for maintaining all electronic / electromechanical audio-visual devices on both the Bradenton and Venice campuses. During his tenure he analyzed the performance problems with the on-campus CCTV system in Bradenton, corrected signal deficiencies in the system, and redesigned / rebuilt the CCTV Head End with a computer-based control system. During construction of the Venice campus, Richard designed and specified the CCTV system for the new campus. While in the employ of Baker Electronics, Inc., Richard was given numerous specialized assignments. As the company’s Technical Writer, Richard was assigned the task of researching and recommending a Desktop Publishing system for the company. At the completion of this task, the company president created a Publications Department to control all printed materials distributed to outside parties. Richard was designated manager of this department. As the company’s Publications Manager, Richard was assigned the task of researching and recommending a Total Quality Management system. At the completion of this task the company contracted with a TQM vendor to implement their program. Richard was designated TQM coordinator and training liaison with the vendor. As the company’s Publications Manager, Richard was assigned the task of researching and planning the implementation of a Human Resources department for the company. At the completion of this task, the company president created a Human Resources Department based on Richard’s plan. Richard was designated director of this department. As the company’s HR Director, Richard designed and implemented a Drug Free Workplace program. This program was approved by the Chamber of Commerce upon the first evaluation. (Tax Preparation Software division), Richard was assigned the task of facilitating the Documentation department’s conversion from a DOS / Word Perfect platform to a Windows / MS Word platform. This task required the creation of Word Perfect macros to pre-process the existing documentation for conversion, and a series of MS Word macros to post-process the documents with Word formatting; a series of procedure guides for performing the conversion process; and training of the technical writing staff on usage of the conversion macros and the MS Word 6.0 word processing software. While under contract to General Telephone Data Services, Richard was designated lead writer for the Business Express software development project. This position involved the direct supervision of the technical writing staff, coordination with the business analyst staff, and coordination with the project management team to ensure timely completion of Requirements, Software Design, User Manual, and Online Help documentation. While under contract to Bausch & Lomb-Sarasota, Richard was designated software project management responsibility in support of a major manufacturing-process conversion project. This position involved the direct supervision of the software development team, the technical writing team, and the software testing team; coordination with the Engineering staff and coordination with the Quality Assurance staff to ensure timely completion and approval of each project phase. While under contract to Bausch & Lomb-Clearwater, Richard was assigned the task of facilitating a major restructuring of the operating procedures for the IT department. This task included a through analysis of departmental software development / testing procedures, a recommendation to management for changes and revisions to the procedures; creation of a comprehensive set of Standard Operating Procedure documents to define the new procedures; and training of the IT department staff on the new procedures.
