Planning 11 – Career Cruising Brochure
By using a combination of the Career Cruising computer program and Microsoft Word Brochure Template, produce a “portfolio quality” information brochure on a career of interest to you. Career Cruising is located at www.careercruising.com To log in use the following: User name: oak Password: bay
1. First, click on the Matchmaker icon and center your name. After completing the 39 questions, take a look at some of the careers that are listed – do they interest you – do they match what you may already be thinking about your future? 2. You can review your answers by clicking on the Review icon. 3. Choose a level of Education (click on the icon). This sets the jobs/careers available that are based on your levels of education. Obviously, the more training you have, the more options! 4. At this point, click Save to My Portfolio! Your will have to create a Portfolio. 5. Now go to My Skills and begin answering the questions there. Answer with your instincts, as usually that will be most correct on these kinds of tests! 6. Review you results and choose a couple of careers off your list that interest you and starting checking into them. Use all the info available: Job Description, Working Conditions, etc. READ! 7. Take a look at the interviews also – you may need your own ear phones (you can do this at home also). 8. Choose ONE Career that you will research in depth and save it to your portfolio. Now start creating a Career Information Brochure! Using the information provided, create your brochure to include these areas: 1. 2. 3. 4. Job description. typical duties possible hazards Workplace conditions: hours of work place of work Earnings: High end and low end of salary Education: Suggested courses required in Grade 10,11, and 12 3 specific institutions where you can get training 5. Career Path: from entry level to possible advancements 6. Related Jobs: 3 specific links with an explanation of what each link is about. Include any other aspects that are unique to this career. Using the Microsoft Word Brochure template, create an attractive double-sided brochure.

Please put your name and block on your work. Make this look awesome – put creativity, good design and effort into this! Making a Microsoft Word Brochure template TIPS: Open the Microsoft Word program. Press FILE, then NEW, from publications choose the BROCHURE TEMPLATE. The easiest way to use the brochure template is to delete all the type from the whole brochure, then just refill it with the new information you want to insert. If you do it this way the settings for the column widths are still there for you to use. If you don’t remove all the type it can get difficult figuring out the sizing and spacing of the fonts. I have found this to be the easiest way. Remember you want this to be a professional looking brochure. The double siding has to be done at printing time. You actually have to hand feed your paper in for side 2 to be printed properly. We are book into the Career Center for one more class so we have 2 class periods to finish this assignment. The information you put in your brochure can be taken from the Career Cruising Web site but please put it in your own words. Don’t forget to put your name and block on your work. Here’s how you will be marked on this project:
