INSTALLATION

The software requires an installation of the J2SE version 1.5 in order

to run. It is a stand-alone program that only needs Java for it to be run on

any system.

MAIN WINDOW

Buttons:

Put Watermark – launches the window that lets the user put a watermark to

                 a JPEG image

Decode Watermark – launches the window that lets the user decode and

detect a watermark of a picture
PUT WATERMARK WINDOW

The PUT WATERMARK window is the interface for the user if he/she

chooses to embed a watermark on a certain image.

Textfield[s]:

 Desired Watermark – type the desired watermark to be embedded in

       this textfield

 Image Source – automatically contains the path of the JPEG file that

       the user selected

 Input image file - automatically contains the path of the JPEG file that

       the user selected

 Output image file - automatically contains the path of the

       watermarked JPEG file

 Output key file - automatically contains the path of the key file

       produced by the watermarking process
Button[s]:

 Browse – launches a file chooser which enables the user to select

       which picture to watermark

 Encode – embeds the text on the image and produces the output

image file and the key text file

Input[s]:

 The text that would be embedded on the image

 The JPEG file where the text will be embedded

Output[s]:

    Watermarked image

 Secret key needed to decode watermark

The ENCODE button will not activate unless the Desired Watermark field and

the Image Source field are properly filled up.

                              Successful encoding
After successful encoding, the interface will show the chosen image

side-by-side with the watermarked image in order for the user to visually

compare any obvious distortions on the watermarked image. The user is also

prompted for the specific filenames of the output image and the output key

file. (Default values respectively: watermarked.jpg and myKey.txt)

NOTE: The key file should be kept secret since this is what the

decoder needs in order to extract the correct data from the image containing

the user’s watermark.

DECODE WATERMARK WINDOW

The DECODE WATERMARK window is where the user inputs the key

along with the watermarked image. It detects whether or not any JPEG

picture has your watermark.

                        Decode Watermark Window
Textfield[s]:

 Enter key file – automatically contains the path of the key file that the

       user selected

 Image to decode – automatically contains the path of the JPEG file that

       the user selected

Button[s]

 Browse (key file) - launches a file chooser which enables the user to

select the key file needed to decode the watermark

 Browse (image to decode) – launches a file chooser which enables the

user to select which picture to decode

 Decode – decodes the text on the image and outputs the watermark (if

       there is)

Input[s]:

 The key text file that would be decode the watermark

 The watermarked JPEG file where the watermark is located

The DECODE button will not activate unless the key field and the

Image field are properly filled up.
                       Watermark Detected and Decoded

The user interface would indicate that there is no watermark detected

if that is the case.

                           No Watermark Detected
